‘Letters from Berlin’ started from a series of letters written by my Grandmother, Beejie,  to her parents. During the summer of 1955 she went on a high school exchange program in from Charlotte, N.C. to Berlin with an organisation called A.F.S. During this time she wrote home regularly updating her family of her experiences, people she met, places she saw and lectures she attended. 

The installation has eleven narratives found within it, one being audible and the other has quotes from the narratives highlighting the difference in time periods.

Radio’s In Spaces is a generative broadcast composition commissioned by Octopus Collective that documents the characteristics and atmosphere of different locales punctuated with radio broadcasts. The piece documents the transformation of broadcasts and popular compositions played whilst absorbing the locations characteristics transfiguring them into a new sound collage. This demonstrates the different surroundings radios find themselves situated in and how the communication or the use of miscommunication can be effected by different environments. Therefore projecting the composition into a continuous sound sculpture of radio programmes being broadcast in an array of different locales transformed into a sound collage.

A Composition for Mark Leckey’s Private View is a generative sound composition commissioned for Leckey’s private view by Nottingham Contemporary. The composition investigates the auditory characteristic of the exhibition, taking recordings from the four galleries and performing the shows aural characteristics into a sound collage, exploring the communications the galleries share, which are penetrated by the objects that are located within.

Charles Gershkovich is a collaboration project with a wide verity of outputs from photography, sound experiments, moving images and text based works. The projects often deal with the idea of time and location and their different combinations are a way of navigating ourselves through them.
