Poem: I Lost My Shoes

'Mum, I'm straight.'

So, earlier this week this horrendous news story was posted by a Facebook friend that detailed a television segment, designed to talk women through covering bruises that had been caused by domestic violence (available here: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/nov/27/moroccan-state-tv-shows-women-how-to-hide-domestic-violence).

A disclaimer, then: I am all too aware that domestic violence works all along the gender spectrum and that it is by no means a strictly female issue. I hope, by the end, this will not be viewed as a strictly female poem, despite its introduction.
