The Unbearable Lightness of CHILL OUT << >>


In the history of genres, styles and musical subdivisions, maybe that strange phenomenon called chill out stand out precisely for not wanting to stand out. Affected, almost uncomfortable, intense modesty chill out (in English, a reference to the calm, tranquility, relaxation) is more than a musical style with its own characteristics, a zone, a situation an area << >> rest. A tool to relax, for living << >>, as opposed to the stresses of work or danceable track: tempi smooth and quiet, smooth, with chords and melodies ostinados no surprises or stridency.
His music akin to the New Age >> << transcendentalists but without pretensions, share too many features with other ambient substyles called << >>, << >> or << downtempo trip-hop >> to claim any identity. With huge festivals like the British Big Chill, held since 1995, ranging from musical groups to visual spectacles, massage therapists and alternative therapies or Sensomusic, this summer was held in Madrid to mark the 25th anniversary of Café del Mar, the music and culture chill out moving slowly but inexorably, like soft water, creating with its padded sounds, spongy and weak, the soundtrack of a universe full of timeless sunrises and devoid of tensions of life.
