Zimbabwean-born and Cape Town-based, Kapula aka Nyauist is a sonically fearless selector, multimedia artist, and music researcher. His musical roots trace back to playing drums in his father’s church—an early spark that lit a deep, enduring love for sound and performance.

A co-founder of Pungwe Nights and ChiNdanga! Radio, Kapula has been instrumental in shaping innovative musical platforms and curatorial projects across the continent. 

His current work includes ASTRO SONIC TRAILS—an evolving, vinyl-driven installation that explores Black sonic legacies and African heritage through archival digging and crate culture.

Cape Town-based selector Alan weaves Caribbean and African sounds into vibrant sets that blur the line between a DJ set and auditory storytelling. Alan’s sets, rhythmic and uplifting, have quickly established him as a favourite throughout the city. His latest project includes tutoring a young DJ, Lex, and together (operating under the name ALAN&LEX).

Alan is also the voice behind an incredible 10-part podcast series, I’ll Always Be Your Brother, recounting his time in the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church during the 1970s in Jamaica. Through vivid personal memories, the series tells the untold story of a radical Rastafari movement, its spiritual mission, and its misunderstood role in Jamaican and global history.

Ep09: DJ Okapi

DJ Okapi, founder of Afrosynth Records, is widely respected as one of the key figures preserving South Africa’s electronic, bubblegum, and kwaito heritage. More than a DJ, he’s an archivist and connector, unearthing lost South African sounds from the ’80s and ’90s while championing a new wave of local jazz artists — like Mabuta and Ayanda Sikade — through his New Horizons compilation series, pressed on vinyl and distributed worldwide by @rushhourrecords in Amsterdam.

Afrosynth began as a blog in 2009–2010, with deep dives into disco, funk, bubblegum, and early kwaito that helped put these sounds back on the map for collectors, DJs, and reissue labels globally. The label naturally grew from that archival work.

A vital connector and collector, Okapi ran the legendary Afrosynth record shop in downtown Johannesburg before returning to Cape Town, where you’ll now find him DJing at venues like Gorgeous George and The Commons, or digging up vinyl treasures at local record fairs. His sets are living archives — a dance floor journey through priceless holy grails and bargain-bin surprises, all stitched together with groove and deep knowledge

Abby has held club and radio residencies across South Africa and performed at international festivals and showcases including Fabric, Mixmag Lab, Defected, Secret Garden Party, and Lighthouse Festival. She has shared stages with artists like Bonobo, Black Coffee, Joris Voorn, Kölsch, and Nightmares on Wax. Beyond the booth, she co-directs SAMP Records, championing South African vinyl culture through pressing, licensing, and distribution.

J-FUNKART is a Tunisian-born producer, DJ, curator, and record collector whose eclectic taste has made him a standout in the global underground. As the founder of FFW REC, he seamlessly weaves together Detroit and Chicago house, disco, funk, UK garage, Italo disco, and more, creating an effortless groove.

In 2020, he launched the Funk From The World radio show on RINSE FM, which has since grown into a full-scale project with live sets and guests. He joined NTS Radio as a guest in London in April 2023 and has shared stages with names like Donna Leake, Romain FX, LB aka Labat, Para One, and others.

In 2025, J-FUNKART spent three weeks touring South Africa with Daniel Monaco (Rush Hour), an inspiring journey that deepened his craft as a selector and curator in new spaces and scenes.

The Feeling: Ep 12 - Kongisto

EP15: A1R 0N 

A1R 0N (Aaron Peters) is a South African music curator whose career has consistently blurred the lines between community building, curation, artist development, and selecting music. 

His music career began at Black Major, where he managed and booked acts, building a foundation in the inner workings of South Africa’s live and DJ scene. He went on to co-found and lead the music program for Search Festival, where he pushed for a diverse range of styles, featuring artists such as DJ Lag, Jamz Supernova, Kujenga, Donna Leake & Nobuhle Ashanti. He co-founded The Other, a music culture hub that produced numerous events, an online radio station, and a physical record shop in Cape Town.

Alongside these projects, Aaron helped program the long-running party SWIM, booking forward-thinking artists like Teki Latex, Rival Consoles, DJ Call Me, Klein, and Angel Ho. On the airwaves, he’s hosted “Southern Tips” on Worldwide FM and presented Immerse Yourself on The Other Radio, curating soundscapes that spotlighted Southern African music and genre fluid immersions.

As A1R 0N, his DJ sets and radio shows reveal a passion for digging and sharing the sounds of ambient, folk, jazz, drone, classical, and more. Eclectic yet cohesive, his selections carry a common thread of beauty, intensity, magic, and texture.

The Feeling: Ep 15 - Air On

Shoemaker grew up in a family on the east coast of the United States where music was always the cornerstone of the home. When he first left the States over a decade ago, his love for music was only magnified by his travels around the world. Shortly after, an obsession for disco music sent him down a path of collecting and playing records.  With multiple residencies in the city under his belt over the years, his drive for finding new music and sounds inspires him to consistently dig deeper. Today, Shoemaker’s sets are influenced by disco, Latin, African, Zouk, house, and music from all corners of the world - never one to stick to one sound or genre. He aims to spoil listeners with music they are unfamiliar with but find irresistible not to move to!
