Naarm based singer songwriter, Charlie Lane is set to release her much-anticipated debut album, ‘I’m Okay Now but I Wasn’t’ in October. 
The album is a heartfelt, conceptual statement heralding career-best songwriting from the proudly queer and disabled Lane and introduces the listener to a world seen through Lane’s lens. 
Mixed by Rohan Sforcina, (Oh Mercy). Co- produced by session guitarist Adam Heath, with an array of talented collaborators including Louis Spencely, Jasmine Johnston, Jethro Kalt and features from members of Halo Vocal Ensemble and violinist Emma Kelly. It is mastered by Lachlan Carrick, known for his work on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. 
Lane’s voice has been compared to the UK’s Kate Nash and Sharon Van Etten with musical influences drawing from The National, and Joy Division. Songs, such as “50 Shades of Bruised” and “Tears,” explore relationship fragility, while album closer, “I Can’t Do Much” offers a joyful, carefree conclusion. 
“Ginger,” the next single from the record, is Lane's most nostalgic. “It’s the first song I ever wrote”.
Growing up with Cerebral Palsy saw Lane stand out from her peers for being different. Now her music sets her apart, serving as a powerful testament to her resilience and creativity. With "I’m Okay Now but I Wasn’t", Charlie Lane proves that true artistry transcends limitations.

Ginger is a tender one. It was the first song I ever wrote, and comes right from a lost, grieving little heart. I was lucky enough to have members of Halo Vocal Ensemble on the track, who are a gorgeous Naarm based ensemble, led by my beautiful friend Liona Tatafu. Ginger is a longing and a love for someone, packed with guilt and regrets.

I wrote this at a time when I was in a relationship where the person was getting effected by my mental health, but didn’t fully understand it, nor wanted to. 
Didn’t understand what I have to go through and how much blame I actually put on myself, and how much you don’t actually mean to do what hurts them in the long run, but inevitably end up in a lonely as hell relationship. 
Therefore, you are always smiling to cover up the fact you are not happy at all. You are faking everything.
