A soundtrack-style piece composed for the 8Dio 2013 Stand Out Contest, showcasing a couple of instruments. Contrasts heavy percussion and modern electronics with a string orchestra and solo violin. Enjoy!

One movement from a larger piece I'm working on for piano and electronics, based on both 16th century astrology and modern observations of the same stars and constellations.

Pleiades

A stereo reduction of a piece I composed at the University of Birmingham, 2014. The original uses 8 channels, with each channel treated as a point source for the glitch material.

Demo Montage

Entry for a competition, remixing elements of Destiny's Door by Hans Zimmer. I focused primarily on the solo voice line, using it to create rhythmic pads. The accompaniment was entirely reharmonised and reorchestrated, and I added an electric guitar line to the climax.

Beyond (Bleeding Fingers Contest)

I spent a while messing around with various effects plugins before recording this. Kind of an ambient, slightly glitchy thing. Hooray for delay!

Shards - Live Guitar Improvisation

So I've been watching Hannibal recently, and in between all the other things I have to do with my life I put together a track inspired by the show's music. This is not entirely my design - the melody at the end is my interpretation of a tune from the soundtrack (originally composed by Brian Reitzell), though I may have misquoted it. Oops.

One of these days I might also get around to releasing the autoharp Kontakt instrument I used at the end, as it's based off a recording session I did last year.

Designs

Major-key dubstep should be more of a thing. From an EP I'm knocking together out of some old, half-finished things in my Cubase folder. Stay tuned for more details.

Handshake

A Sleeper is a five movement piece that uses recordings from a music box as its main material. The overture introduces all the material for the piece, and each family of sound is expanded on in the episodes that follow. Whirling cogs, the metallic resonances of the music box, glitches and sound synthesis, and finally the melody of the box, are all transformed into sonic dreamscapes.

A Sleeper

A short electroacoustic piece featuring the vocal talents of David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Nigel Farage and Michael Gove.

This piece both highlights some of the dumb things they have said post-Brexit and invents some entirely new dumb things. But if they can get away with lying like they did, I figure I can get away with rearranging some interview recordings.

Tremendous Fun! or Brequiem In C Minor

Slow, mechanical sonar pings reveal submerged objects and wrecked ships, changed by the sea into something rich and strange.

A nautical-themed piece of music, inspired by the discovery of the wreck of the HMS Terror in 2016 and the wreck of the Mary Rose at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Also includes a fragment of the sea shanty 'Shallow Brown'.

This piece was written to celebrate what would have been the 80th birthday of Delia Derbyshire, an early pioneer of electronic music and one of the few women working in the field at the time. Last year, I was able to visit the Delia Derbyshire Archive at John Rylands Library, University of Manchester, where I found the tiny fragment of musical notation that I reinterpreted into this work.

Munich Fragment was premiered at The Delian Dome, 1st December 2017, a concert organised by BEAST and Delia Derbyshire Day.
