This track is my solution to climate change. So here's what I'm gonna do: 

Somehow get out a bank loan, 
Buy a canal boat, 
Live on that, and then when everything floods and sinks I will float to the top.

I was driving along thinking about my parents, and how it's impossible to replace the people that brought you up. Then I thought 'Oh crikey, I'm going to that for someone else! I'm going to be a Dad'. And then I thought, but I'm not just going to be any Dad, I'm going be The Dad. The singular Dad. I am Dad! 

It was a bit of an epiphany moment for me. I don't have many epiphanies so I thought I'd better make it into a song. 

I recorded the guitar and vocals for this song in a rather damp cellar, and mixed and mastered it myself using analogue equipment. 

I Am Dad

The new single from Misery Gutz out on 21st April 2021. 

Misery Gutz (or Charlie as his Mum still calls him), is a singer-songwriter from Suffolk who sings songs that he’d like to listen to when he’s in a bad mood. He writes music inspired by alt-rock influences from across the pond like Wilco and Phoebe Bridgers whilst drawing influence from British 60s/70s folk acts like Nick Drake and John Martyn.

A true DIY artist, Misery plays everything on his records, mixes it himself and creates the artwork. He learned to do this when he worked at Vibey Studios in France where they produced Keane’s multi-platinum album ‘Hopes & Fears’, Dido and lots more.

Pre-pandemic, Mr Gutz made a living as a licensed busker on London’s Southbank whilst living in his van on the richest road in Britain. He has taken his busking show around the world and recorded commissions for BMG Music. At 29, he’s currently recording lots of new music and virtually busking by live streaming on Twitch.

Singing In The Sun (Is The Life I Choose)

I'm Charlie Law, a guitaring singing community musician living in Ipswich in Suffolk. I write songs with community groups - children with SEND, adults living with dementia and men in the criminal justice system. It's incredibly rewarding and inspiring and fuels my own songwriting. My latest album 'Put The Kettle On' came out in May 2024 and I'm currently recording my next album about becoming a Dad this year. Hope to see you somewhere out there soon :)
