FREQUENCY stylized as FRQNCY is a voicing of love, joy, fears and insecurities through a collection of
songs written and composed by Checkmate Mido. The album recordings took place over a period of one and a half years mainly at ADA Creative Studios in Nairobi with additional recordings happening at Sub Sahara in Nairobi and Kujo’s home studio in Kampala, Uganda.

Checkmate Mido - Very Well

"Kimbia" is a Swahili word which translates to 'run' or 'to run'. 
‘Kimbia’ at face value is about running. Particularly, running towards, or away, from something, a feeling, or someone. It explores this complex feeling by focusing on a fictional character, who appears to be running ‘not’ physically but through action and emotion throughout the narration of her story.

Jazabel and Theme (Chasing) are a medley of two songs put together.

Jazabel - explores the connection between an artist and his muse. It opens up about that feeling of always chasing after something, which seems attainable and unattainable at the same time.  And the fear of finally catching or defining it and finding out that it’s not enough.

Theme (Chasing) - explores what happens after the process of ‘chasing’ a muse, a feeling or someone.

Checkmate Mido (the dancing poet) is a performing artist (Poet/Actor/Beatboxer) and certified trainer of the performance arts. He is widely known for his unique gift of merging art forms together to create an interesting, interactive and engaging performance.

Considering himself ‘a carrier of stories’, his work borrows from life, life experiences (his and others’ as
well) which he weaves together creatively through collaboration.

He co-facilitated a poetry performance workshop with Bassey Ikpi (Def Jam Poetry Star) in 2015 and
opened up for global poet/hiphop artist Akua Naru during her African Tour.

His poems and songs have been featured on BBC [Focus On Africa and Arts Hour], Badilisha Poetry and
SPOKEN WOR:L:DS (https://spokenworlds.bandcamp.com/album/spoken-wor-l-ds-nairobi-berlin).

He is the founder and one third of the band ‘boxofbeatske’ with which he recorded and released the well received ‘Box of Beats EP’
