The initial idea came around the first of June when my wife got me a new Focusrite audio interface and I wanted to record some sounds as opposed to sounds in the  box.  I was wanting try something besides triadic modulations around different key centers and started messing around with harmonic minor.  It's a simple AABA idea that took about two months to flesh out.  I've been more concerned with absorbing theory idea and getting my fingers to translate these ideas better, but I'd still tinker with this song here and there.  Figured out transitions over the last couple of weeks and finished it up last night.  Hope you enjoy!

2023 Favorites Mix

I've had this simple guitar line that I've been playing around with for the last few months.  Key of A seems to be the most natural for me playing.  I got around to recording last weekend, just the main line and some additional guitar lines over that.  Spend last weekend and this working on arranging and mixing.  To me, it sounds triumphant, but life can be that way sometimes.  Not often but sometimes.

A Waltz for New Arrivals

Miniforms II: Ten Pin Alley is coming to Bandcamp on June 29, 2018, and will be on streaming platforms as well.  This four song EP will focus on some of the more pop orientated songs from the Forms sessions of 2014, though this song in particular is way older than that.  Like Summer of 2008 old.  It's about my wife, whom I just started corresponding with at the time.  I put it up on Myspace as a hint.  Maybe she heard it then.  I don't know.  I don't do lyrics often, and a couplet really isn't a lyric, but it captured this happy nervousness I felt at the time.  Feeling still there.

Preparation (Thesis)

“Alas… The Sun is Shining and You are Still Alive” finds Whettman Chelmets exploring more of the guitar sounds and textures that defined his teenage life, and that sound lends a nostalgic longing to each these three tracks. The first track hits right of the bat with the artist plunging into shoegaze, fuzz-echo noise pop structures reminiscent of the Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure, and Phil Spector. Track two takes on acoustic treatments and blends them with 4/4 kick drums, reverberated guitars and chimes that weave to a grandiose apex with nods to the The Tornados’s “Telstar” and other larger-than-life sounds. Track three slows it all down to a glacial pace and unfolds guitar textures over the course of nine minutes, moving from a dreamy yearning to crushing waves of feedback and noise. At 18 minutes, Whettman Chelmets takes us on a journey through fuzz-tinted memories.

This 18 minute EP explores the concepts of new fatherhood and the adjustments one makes.  Taking inspiration from the drones, white noise, and arpeggios that often fill year ears of new life, with this, I explore the fun, frustration and feels as my daughter approaches her first birthday.

This track was composed primarily through the Behringer Neutron with various guitar pedals.
