We Were

Last night, July 28th, I spent most of the night in my grandpa Bo's yard laying on a towel to avoid the prickly grass. My gaze rotated from the peaceful Wailua River to the dark and very star-filled night sky. I felt more connected to the world than I have before and found myself at an ultimate bliss feeling. I soaked in the surrounding noises, smells, and sights and meditated mostly about how wonderful it is that I am able to spend this special time with my family that lives here on Kaua'i. Moments from my trip began to shower my mind, and my body increasingly calmed. I felt more pure and happy the longer I laid and focused on the stars. I knew this was the absolute time to do what I love most - to sing. I chose my a-cappella version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" not only because it has always been close to my heart, but also because it was sung by the Hawaiian native named Israel Kamakawiwoʻole or Iz. It satisfies me that Iz was able to uniquely sing this song while playing his ukelele before he passed away. And, since I'm in the Hawaiian islands right now, where he was from, I thought it was the perfect choice. I hope you enjoy. :)
