It's Still Happening

She was a young woman, sweet girl with them happy eyes 
stumbling in the backseat and trying to apologize
Heavily inebriated 
cabbie somewhat irritated
ready to charge a cleaning fee to rinse the place he operated
But she seemed alright, lucid with a level head-
headed nowhere, she asks to drive around instead
Clock starts ticking as cab pulls away 
from the bar, how far the car(s) gotta travel to feel okay?

After a silent minute, cabbie glancing back
checking to make sure there isnt vomit on the floor mat
But to find an open window with her outstretched hand
surfing along the air - cabbie doesn't understand
"rough night?" he asks a sense of amusment
she replies that depends on exactly what you meant
He asks to clarify and why an answer so odd
Sorry, a party, I'm moving abroad
 
Bittersweet the sentiment, and possibly pestilent, cabbie popped a muzzle and went mute without prying (pause)
but the silence didn't last, as she flatly calmly asked, cabbie tell me have you ever thought about dying
the tone was sincere so intrgued he replied "I try hard not to focus on the day im gonna die,
but what about tonight would bring this question to your head?"
after a moment she sighed, and then she said

theres something wrong with me
tumor in the brain
real malignancy
no more to explain
It's too far gone so the chemo can't save me
But I've moved on, accept what life gave me 
I don't need no sympathy or their pity
All the Friends-I-love believe I'll take a new city
so the truth, the facts, they don't know
but ifff- its there the afterlife's the only place I'll go- 

Awkardly quiet cabbie sits there dumbstruck
"im sorry that lifes given you this shit luck"
She says I refuse to view it that way
A lifes not worth living stuck in dismay
and I lived, I got to see the highs didn't watch it fly by like some do
yes I'm gonna die, but why quantify all the things and events I've lived through?
Cabbie pulls over sits back relaxed, I guess never really thought about it like that
You always hear them say they lived a good long life
But short and sweets better than filled with strife
I-guess you-kind a-get my-state of-mind the-time is limited but what you do is undefined
that-peace inside you-have id-like to-find, tell me where you live ill get you home on my dime
   
taxi confessions and therapists sessions they parked for hours front her place discussing lifes essence
And when it was over, gather composure, she left the cab while saying it was nice to know ya
CAbbie pulled away a torment in his head, reflecting on their talk and everything they had said 
sadly years ago his life's still the same, but she lives in his thoughts though he never learned her name
