Wednesday, May 26th, 2021.  An unexpected afternoon thunderstorm.  I didn't so much watch it as watch my mom watching it - through the hospice window, as I sat beside her.  It was the last storm she would ever see.  She wanted to go home but we weren't able to get her back there.  I lied to her, because it seemed the kindest thing to do:  "Maybe tomorrow, mom.  Maybe tomorrow."  This patch reminds me of the aftermath of the storm, of water dripping outside the hospice window as she slowly drifted back to sleep.  This was the end of her lucidity.  She was largely unresponsive after this, and died two days later.
