Cherman - Villera Bass del Cono Sur (Mixtape)

I have been summoned by the Montsònica festival to present a session of Electronic Folklore or Folktronics in a rural environment, in the Bass del Montsià, a small lake in the middle of a grove in the lower area of Tarragona, at noon while the audience enjoyed a vermouth in the shade of the trees, in a chill space. This is the recording of my performance at the festival.

Me han convocado del festival Montsònica para que presentara una session de Folklore Electrónico o Folktrónica en un entorno rural, en la Bass del Montsià un pequeño lago en medio de una arboleda en la zona baja de Tarragona, en horario del mediodía mientras la audiencia distrutaba de un vermut a la sombra de los árboles, en un espacio chill. Esta es la grabación de mi presentación en el festival.

Montsònica is a new project of the Eufònic festival that sets the sights, broadens the interests and reinforces the character already present in the festival – the uniqueness of the spaces and the territory, the conception of rurality, the peripheral condition and the contemporary arts inserted in the context – and enhances them with its own entity and program: the relationship between roots music, tangible and intangible heritage, historical memory and the unique landscape of the interior of the region and the populations that make it up with the interest for experimentation, the musical revisitation of folklore and contemporary artistic practices.

Through a series of musical performances, sound actions, body and movement performances, reinterpretations of the voice, the word and oral memory and sound walks inserted in the landscape, as well as spaces for debate and dialogue, Montsònica presents itself as a concise dynamic and multifaceted program that establishes a relationship with the social and community context, as well as with the specific space that hosts them, avoiding stylistic corsets. A celebration of rurality.

Montsònica es un nuevo proyecto del festival Eufònic que fija la mirada, amplía los intereses y refuerza el carácter ya presente en el festival –la singularidad de los espacios y el territorio, la concepción de ruralidad, la condición periférica y las artes contemporáneas insertadas en el contexto– y las potencia con una entidad y programa propios: la relación entre las músicas de raíz, el patrimonio material e inmaterial, la memoria histórica y la singularidad paisajística del interior de la comarca y las poblaciones que la forman con el interés por la experimentación, la revisitación musical del folclore y las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas.

A través de una serie de actuaciones musicales, acciones sonoras, performances de cuerpo y movimiento, reinterpretaciones de la voz, la palabra y la memoria oral y paseos sonoros insertados en el paisaje, así como espacios de debate y diálogo, Montsònica se presenta como un escueto programa dinámico y multiforme que establece una relación con el contexto social y comunitario, así como con el espacio específico que las acoge, huyendo de corsés estilísticos. Una celebración de la ruralidad.
