Percussive Dub, Spiritual Jazz & Psychedelic Grooves With Millie McKee

Selector Millie McKee embarks on an eclectic journey through some of her most treasured records. Based in Bristol, Millie is one of the most illuminating diggers in the city, whose keen instinct for rock, jazz, funk and lots more spellbinding genre agnostic sounds have made her a DJ of note in a town full of DJs of note. 

Her open-hearted style and unapologetic expression were first spotted by Noods Radio, where she has built a growing pool of listeners. The popularity of her radio show has granted her a very busy year DJing around festivals and parties throughout the summer.

We are thrilled to dive into the spring season with a guest mix by the miraculous Brazilian/Danish DJ crew Batukizer.  

Batukizer's sets are composed of hand-picked, infectious dance tunes from a vast collection representing Brazilian sounds from the 60s to the 90s. It's all thanks to their extensive digging trips through the megacities of Rio and São Paulo as well as through South and Northeast Brazil, and the Amazon. They have made a significant contribution to the discovery of amazing and often forgotten Brazilian music through their series of mixtapes and their obsession with finding obscure and rare dance records. Their mixtapes have been shared by The Vinyl Factory, NTS Radio, My Analogue Journal, Discogs, Le mellotron, Gouranga, Kiosk Radio, Music for Dreams, and more.

For VDS, they have handpicked a beautiful atmospheric and spiritual jazzy journey. What better way to ease into the warmer season?

It wasn't going to be long before we tried something different here. This time it's me, Angelo Cruzman, linking arms with my friend Jacoby and going for a manic music journey through our record collections. 

The 'In Your Mind Experience' was first trialled on patients at a secret laboratory constructed out of used records while the market took a dip and it was calculated that it was cheaper to build a high grade facility out of vinyl than traditional materials. The results were questionable, but with a little faith and a few more willing pill-poppers we managed to come up with a recipe that we think shows just how mad you think we are.

We’re bringing the music back in the venue. We miss vibing and grooving together. The circumstances are different but the mindset remains the same. During these times we can only dance in our imagination and we want to nourish exactly that creative state of mind while respecting the rules.

Tenth Black and White Session with Ajele.
As daughter of a Swiss mother and a Ghanaian father, Ajele was born and raised in Switzerland, where, at the age of eighteen, she got introduced to the electronic music scene and realized there were hardly any female DJs. Now that was something she strived to change! The Decision was made and the first records, mixer and decks where bought. Vinyl shopping became an addiction and playing them a passion. Since 1996 she’s an inherent part of Zurich’s electronic music scene.
In the past 10 years she took a step back from traveling abroad but she still has her regular gigs within the Swiss clubs and festivals. She is also a regular in our livingroom, where she developed her smooth side. Playing her eclectic interpretation of a chillout set.
