Reach For The Sky

In this song I have combined the words of two famous poems by World War One poet Wilfred Owen - Dulce et Decorum Est and Anthem for Doomed Youth - which take as their themes the horrors that British soldiers endured during the First World War of 1914-1918.

Greg wrote the instrumental track to this song and inspired by my travels to Greece, I decided to create lyrics around the story of the Greek myth of Persephone, who is abducted by Hades and forced to live in the Underworld. It's written from the perspective of Persephone's mother Demeter, who longs to see her daughter. But the song can also be read as a metaphor for anyone who is struggling with something that is holding them back - living with depression or other mental health condition for example, or an abusive partner. The 'he' could be interpreted to mean something that the listener has been struggling with.
