After chasing him for what seems like an age we're delighted to finally present a guest mix from Man Power. Who is he? Know one know's for sure. What is for sure though is since a series intriguing, underground electronic productions appeared on a little known SoundCloud profile, coupled by what can only be described as (tongue in cheek?) homo-erotic imagery, Man Power's stock has risen considerably leading him to release on Hivern Discs, IsItBalearic? and more recently Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant imprint where a debut album is imminent. Solid Steel (23rd January) Our guest in Hour 1 is Legowelt, a man of many guises,  but it's his most well known alias that delivers an exclusive mix for Solid Steel. He said this about his mix;
"A lot of unreleased stuff all over the place, mixed on the fly in a crude energetic manner on my old 80s Inkel mixer with built in analog delay recorded on a reel tape deck on slow speed. The music is a bit melancholic, a bit romantic, for grim overcast days of snow and rain with some sun rays coming in occasionally…. a prelude to the spring. Slowly mixing towards a happier vibe. No shallow dumb inbred shit for "Blokes" this is for mad dealers and freaks!"

Scotland has long been a hot bed for underground electronic music; they really know their stuff up there and plying their trade longer than most are respected DJs and promoters Steve Cass & Justin Wilson with their No Strings Attached parties. Now in their 20th year the list of guests appearing alongside them is endless and the longevity of NSA is down to them constantly pushing their sound and bringing back the artists they personally like to hear. Based in Galashiels, south of Edinburgh the duo use a small basement in their local football club with a capacity of only 120. Guests have included Andrew Weatherall, Slam, Ivan Smagghe and Justin Robertson and they have also hosted numerous parties in the Scottish capital including A Love From Outer Space.  NSA never stick to one genre expect; anything from weird disco to techno and the odd classic thrown in with this fine mix for us.

Dark Side Of The Disco

Intergalactic Gary is a Dutch DJ and producer who has many miles on his DJ clock. He first started plying his trade on the raw West Coast of the Netherlands back in the early nineties, where he would rock squat parties and amaze club crowds with his widescreen sets. Ever since then he has been a key player in the Dutch scene, is part of cult crew The Parallax Corporation and is never far away from a pirate radio station. As well as this, nowadays he is a regular on the European circuit at places like Panorama Bar and has long been a Dekmantel favourite.  A real mix specialist who has put out countless official compilations over the years, Gary is behind the next podcast, which is a 3,5 hour live recording, for us and it is a typically well formed affair that takes us deep into his world.  

With more than a hint of the cosmic atmospheres you would expect of someone called Intergalactic Gary, his selection is a dark, moody one full of broken disco and whacked out electro. Shades of new wave, Italo and synth pop also colour the grooves he lays down, and the cumulative effect is an absorbing, slightly unsettling ride through fierce textures, prickly percussive patterns and otherworldly atmospheres.
