A little blues number about the day my ex walked out on me a few years ago.  I'd just had the day from hell at work, traffic was bad and then...so I poured myself a scotch and found my comfort in my guitar.  (It ain't perfect but then neither am I. Done.

Comfort Of The Blues

I wrote this song shortly after viewing The Invisible War, a movie about the high number of women, some one in three, raped while serving in the US Military.  Now I understand that only a small fraction of these guys are doing the raping and most service men and women are going way beyond the call of duty in serving our country.  But some men think that rape is ok and many of these men go into the service.  Men like this need to be helped and their women victims need help. I only want to shine a light on a problem, to state what is the aftermath of this abuse in the hopes that with light comes understanding, with understanding comes change.

American Girl

It was the last assignment the professor gave - to write a song entitled "Just Until." I had no idea what to write about, I was tired from four and a half months of a creative marathon of writing. It just started to come, almost word for word before I could even get out of the parking lot. I had to stop on the way home and scribble it all down. Almost word for word the song stands. By the time I got home, I had the melody. I don't know where it came from but I guess it needed to be written and I was just a medium. It's for all the women who didn't come home from Iran, Afghanistan and everywhere they are called to active duty and for their loved ones forever left behind.

aka Fina. I wrote this song for a friend, who called me one night many years ago now from Wimberly, Texas to tell me that her cowboy had broken her heart.  I drove out from Austin to spend some time and see what I could do, nothing really as you know.  So I did the only really helpful thing I knew, went home and wrote a song, :).  Love unrequited paints us over -- this comes from being a poor artist so mostly when I'm not that happy with a painting, I can just re-gesso and start again, totally new scene. 

A Broken Heart Knows the Truth

aka Fina I wrote this song for a friend, who called me one night many years ago now from Wimberly, Texas to tell me that her cowboy had broken her heart.  I drove out from Austin to spend some time and see what I could do, nothing really as you know.  So I did the only really helpful thing I knew, went home and wrote a song, :). A Broken Heart Knows the Truth (with friends)

I've been cleaning up my computer to get ready for a new one. I forgot about this one that my friend, Tim and I, made just messing around in the living room one night. We had never done this song together and I had never sung it without the radio. I lost him to liver cancer some years ago but we made some lovely music together before that. This is a testament to just how many times I sang it with the radio, lol. I'm going to feel cheated unless you stay for the last note which I will NEVER hit again! When You Wish Upon A Star



I wrote this for the @#$% that left me four months after the wedding because "he made a mistake" and really just wanted to party all the time instead of be married. It all happened so fast, it was difficult to get over it. I was still "there" long after everybody else had left. Perfect grist for the song mill don't you think, I mean what would Taylor Swift or Adelle write about if it wasn't for broken hearts??

Don't know whether to call this jazz or blues but I might try jazz. I stole this chord progression from the 40's and 50's - I vi ii V, you will probably recognize it. But I needed it and it fit my melody, dunno maybe it was just in my subconscious but it's a beautiful chord progression, so I took it shamelessly. My problem is I'm not a jazz player and it's really hard to play straight and sing jazz so what I'd like is my voice against a better rhythm track, jazz guitar rhythm, which would free me to try the lead. Nice soft bass and drums.

I think this is a good song, maybe the best song I ever wrote. I wrote it from a deep place in my heart.

Done, Gone and Moving On

I wrote this song after I heard so many cheering after Osama Bin Ladin was killed. I know we had to stop him but do we have to cheer? What is there to cheer about? To me it's more like having to put a viscious dog down, there's no cheering, it's just a necessary and evil thing we must do to protect the greater good.  What I'm trying to say with this song is that we should be trying to help each other more but that's just the old hippie chick in me talking.
