"Do What You Love"

This will be the closing track on my soon to be released folk pop CD that I am recording at Blue Bindi Studio with Ken Paulino.  I wrote this song after hearing the news that a dear music making friend had crossed over after returning from our annual Potter Party last summer. I hadn't stayed up all night Saturday night making music like I had in the past because I was having surgery on Monday, and needed to sleep well to drive home with my sweet daughter Cheyenne Sunday afternoon. After I heard the news, I was sad I had missed my final chance to make music again with our dear brother, Christian Salsedo. After my own ordeal with Lymphoma earlier in the year, I am oh so grateful to still be here to be able to dance and sing with all those who are still here as well. I plan on singing this song when the sun rises on Sunday marnin at the Potter Party each year now.

"I'm Still Here With You"

"Snuggle Time", recorded and mixed at Dave World Productions with David Granati, will soon be available on my Children's CD. I wrote this song about one of my favorite times of the day... Snuggle Time! I love to sing it when we wake up in the marnin and when we go to bed at night, or even when we take a little break in the middle of the day to relax and just snuggle up with a great book or a movie. It's a wonderful way to acknowledge how sweet it is to enjoy some special time with our loved ones.

I wrote this song a few weeks after I had a hysterectomy to rid my body of MALT Lymphoma. It was the first day I felt strong enough to pick up my guitar. I just had to express my love for all the wonderful friends and family who helped me in many ways to get through this life changing experience.

"Lifetime Of Love"

A tribute to Chuckles the Dolphin, an Amazon River dolphin, who lived at the Pittsburgh Zoo for 32 years. When he swam over to the big river in the sky in 2002, my friend George Beatty asked me to write a song for him. I asked him to help me, so he sent me a poem, which became the first verse, and then he said that I should write about how kids that went to see him in the 70s brought their own children to see him when they became parents, and he told me a story about his own childhood. Shortly after we started writing the song, Larry Berger of the Saturday Light Brigade called me to ask if I would like to sing at the live broadcast on WYEP on Earth Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo beside Chuckles the Dolphin's memorial tank. I finished the song the night before the broadcast, and debuted this sweet tribute live on 91.3 WYEP.

I recorded this version with Nathan Wilson on bass and backup vocals with Pittsburgh's legendary songwriter, Dave Hanner, who also programmed the drums and played some sweet guitar riffs.

"Chuckles the Dolphin"

I wrote this song in 1985, then recorded it in 1986 with The Other Brothers Band, the House Band at Wheeling, WV's Capital Music Hall's Jamboree USA, at Jeree Recording Studio in New Brighton, PA a bit north of Pittsburgh!

Note... I re-wrote all of the lyrics (except the title) in 2000 or so because my Mom and my friend George kept requesting this song at shows, but I didn't realize how needy it sounded until I "Grew Up"! 😂

"Take Care of Paradise" by cleaning up the world around you... this is the message of the song Cherylann wrote to promote a beach clean up event in Aruba, and now she releases a new video each year to encourage folks to keep this paradise clean. It was recorded at Cherylann's SunHawk Studio, with Mark DeMeno on bass and percussion, and Tracey Whorton on steel pan. Enjoy...

Take Care Of Paradise

As a child, Cherylann imagined there was a hidden microphone in a button on her shirt that allowed the whole world to hear her sing the songs she made up. Her WV mountain mama began to find stages for her to sing on when she was 5... talent shows, minstrels, church, recitals, family gatherings and lots of charity events. After being inspired by "Coal Miner's Daughter" when she was 12, she learned to play guitar, and started writing songs, and performing professionally as a country singer at fairs, festivals, restaurants, banquet halls, and Wheeling's own Capital Music Hall. Her style had changed from broadway and church songs to country, then she transformed again when she moved to Pittsburgh, PA 25 years ago at the time when Lilith Fair artists graced the music industry.

So now, Cherylann Hawk has found her niche in alternative folk pop, with jazzy country melodies riding the waves of exotic rhythms. Her voice has been compared to some of her influences... Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Joni Mitchell, and Karen Carpenter. In addition to playing rhythm and finger-style acoustic guitar, she also plays a little bass, ukulele, percussion, and kazoo! Her songs of love and resolution will warm your heart and soothe your soul.

Over the past 25 years, while living and performing in Pittsburgh, she released 3 full length CDs and several singles, and has also sung and played with many other performers on stage and in studios. Her most recent project with another artist is John Vento's "Love, Lust & Other Wreckage" and a few new singles. She has recorded music and voice overs for IRead2Know on iHeart Radio, and has been in regular rotation on American Busker on iHeart Radio as well. She loves singing in hospitals for the Sonny Pugar Foundation's "Music Smiles" program, and doing shows for many different charitable organizations. Bringing artists together to create community through open stages and through AcoustiCafe, an organization she co-founded with Mark Willson over 20 years ago, has been one of her passions as well. Most recently, Cherylann has been focusing on recording and doing weekday live streams at 6:30pm on Facebook and YouTube, often with her kids.

Wherever it is that I sing, I love the joy of making music with my friends and family.  Music is a connection between us and with the divine.
