Blending the colourful ’summer of love’ sounds of 60s psychedelia and 90s rave, with a healthy dose of jazz, funk, reggae, and hip hop added to the melting pot, Cryptical Listening brings a variety of styles under the same cosmic umbrella - old to new, local to international.

Having aired every first Thursday monthly since 2019, Cryptical Listening seeks to free your mind from the technicality of genre-based pigeon-holes to allow an hour’s-worth of appreciation for music of all cultures, contexts, and colours, which is an ethos clearly expressed through the ‘Keep It Cryptic’ party lineups, bringing guitar-driven bands under the same warehouse roof as techno-slamming DJs. Whether it’s the darker, bass-heavy breaks, or the lighter soulful boom bap, or Turkish folk gems, or acidified disco edits - you can really expect the unexpected here.

Needed to give this underrated classic a boost after Hot Digits' Andy Buchan brought it back to present relevance with his edit of tune that Daft Punk sampled - 'Can You Imagine' by The Imperials. In this I have used elements of both songs, added my own drum work with a bit of extending, chopping and re-mastering to fatten up the mix - ready for modern sound-systems.

Focusing on the left-field, psychedelic and experimental selections in dance music, Cryptical Listening is a tour through current underground music. Hosted by the Keep It Cryptic warehouse party's primary hosts, the show gives new original music a platform to be played alongside older selections. 

With their rapidly growing party 'Keep It Cryptic' taking off, which brings a mini festival feel to secret warehouse locations outside of the city centre, the Cryptical crew have caught the imagination of a fresh and youthful art scene in Liverpool. Now with a bootleg label set to release a number of originals this year, you can expect to hear lots of unreleased material played on this show – with styles ranging from breaks and electro to dub and jungle, disco and house to jazz and punk.

"Producer, DJ and white label from Liverpool who has played festivals such as We Out Here, Beatherder, and Gottwood, having forged his own sound through exploring the psychedelic outskirts of genres like bruk and jazz-funk, to disco-dub and 80s boogie, electro-funk and acid-house, with releases on labels such as Fabric, Atjazz, Erbium, Heavenly, and Rough Trade, Dance Regular, and Running Back.

Born in a council estate of Norris Green, Liverpool, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer recording his own various recording projects from a very young age, Ché’s DJ career began after playing in bands such as Nutribe and Rubber Dub, dropped out from college and got into mixing jungle and dub sounds. He attended a short course in the Motor Museum recording studio on Lark Lane with the legendary dub-reggae producer Scientist which he said changed his whole output on mixing music. Then at the age of 18 secured a weekly residency at the iconic Jacaranda after winning a competition. The Jac basement was famous for being where The Beatles first played a gig under that name (as owned by their manager Alan Williams). In the Jac he spun a diverse mix of soul, reggae, punk, and funk, to the late night dancing crowd, 2am - 6am every Saturday.

Ché's eclecticism has led to collaborations with major artists in the pop world, playing a key role in the early development of chart-topping band Confidence Man, whilst keeping it real under various other aliases producing with broken beat legends Sticky Dub and EVM128. Ché has played alongside the likes of Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy, Alexander Nut, and Radioactive Man, at seriously underground secret locations across Europe - including Parisian warehouse raves, Amsterdam coffeeshops, and London hifi clubs.

Looking for a deeper and more expressive artistic outlet to showcase and collaborate with the underground arts scene in 2018, he founded the invite-only secret location warehouse party “Keep It Cryptic,” taking over derelict spaces all over the country, booking artists from all over the country, leading him later to curating club nights and festival takeovers with Red Bull, including at We Out Here Festival. This also took him to hosting a radio show with Melodic Distraction, which has lead to spots on stations up and down the country including NTS, Balami, Threads, and SVARA.

It was his Indian electro-dub edit of Charanjit Singh’s 'Raga Bhairav' that caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Jay Carder, leading to a signing with Erbium Records and the release of his Guerrilla Warfare EP under his Guevarism alias in 2023. He released his edit of 'Raga' as a vinyl-only white label 'Ché Wax Vol 1' the following year with a new 303-infused rework of the 60s psychedelic track 'Love Buzz' by Shocking Blue, which has gained serious respect and recognition in a very short space of time, going straight to number 1 on Juno’s Electro chart in 2024. The record was played by Seth Troxler at Fabric in 2025, as well as receiving support from Ruf Dug, Make A Dance, De La Reef, and Milly On Air.

As well as writing, remixing and producing with Confidence Man, he has also along the way worked with his father Greg Wilson, for Gabriels, Jarvis Cocker, Happy Mondays, and Simply Red, contributing to releases on prestigious labels like Fabric Records, Heavenly Recordings, and Rough Trade."
