Tulsa-based producer Darku Jarmola has been nothing short of prolific since self-releasing five singles and an EP in 2019 and doubling up on his output the following years. Drawing influence from trance, disco, breakbeat, and electro, HeartWerk is straightforward in capturing atmospheres through his brand of “moody house” music, and hard-at-work in building a new electronic community in Oklahoma.

The latest release from GL4M is a double-single inspired by contrasting, remote regions of the Americas that have Martian associations. The first track “Atacama” evokes the otherworldly appearance of the arid South American desert where snow gathers 13,000 feet above sea level as flamingos bask in salt flats near the coastline. Conversely, the second track “Athabasca” reflects the rivers and waterfalls that run through the lush yet uranium-scattered forests of Canada that experience sub-zero temperatures. Life flourishes and flounders in these parts of the world and GL4M illustrates the extremity of these highs and lows through his signature acid riffs, bouncing bass lines, and distant ambient sounds that echo into the stratosphere.

Some had said this sort of myriad might only exist in fairytales and fantasies. Now, as he found himself staring into the endless ocean before him, his hand clasped by his significant other, he knew that he had perhaps discovered something rather remarkable. 

His love was transcendental, it flowed and flickered inside his very heart, weaving between the outer spaces and his extremities and engulfing his mental state with a warm, foggy fuzz. To others this might seem far fetched and confused yet in this state everything felt as if it made much sense. 

Perhaps the only other person who might get it was that who held his hand, her.

Dj Hoshino is set to release a new EP on Critique, a record which "illustrates a rising energy born out of dark confines, reflecting our patient return to clubs and nightlife all over the world". 

The record is out today and is set to do damage in the clubs. One to watch? We think so...

Side A features two anthemic tracks in classic breakbeat and four-on-the-floor structures, guaranteed to raise heat on the dance floor and start nights on the good foot. “Freedom” is a declaration of prevailing over the past two years of shutdowns and arrives at a crucial point where festivals and clubs are going through a day-to-day gauntlet leading up to the hour of their events. The title track “Transcendental Love” reminisces on pre-pandemic bliss, evoking classic 90’s house with its soaring hook and syncopated bass line, conducting a deep and infectious rhythm from start to finish.

The music on Side B is more introspective but equally important to understanding the EP’s message. “This Time It Feels Right” deconstructs the basics of acid house to reach contemplative heights, creating a melody and breaking it down to emulate itself. The EP’s energy shifts in “Daydreaming” where an ominous hook, bouncing pads and conga-lined drum kit are playfully arranged to build the song’s driving force. The concluding track “Verge” is made of rapid breaks and angelic synths, signaling a departure from these trying times and welcoming a more heavenly reality.
