The Montreal label Chez.Kito.Kat Records is celebrating the 100th reference to its catalog in style with the publication of the new project by Brussels artist VFO89 (aka MERO). The "Sy Planet" album will be released on vinyl and distributed by the legendary Dutch distributor CLONE DISTRIBUTION. It is composed solely on hardware, so the eight pieces are all groovy and robotic electro bangers made with passion and love strongly influenced by the Detroit electro scene.

Safia Nihil is the duo formed by the two founders of the label Chez.Kito.Kat Records, Salima Bouaraour (Shadya) and Samuel Ricciuti (D.B.Y). After 30 years of musical collaboration on various electro, hip hop, and EBM projects, they reunited as a duo with a creative approach that blends ambient music, analog synthesizers, and Arabic influences. Autotrophia I is the first in a series of three EPs exploring their current influences while pushing sonic experimentation forward. The EP was premiered live last August at the MUTEK festival in Montreal.

The French-Canadian label Chez.Kito.Kat Records publishes the new album “TAPE 1” by Luxembourg producer D.E.T. After having already released in 2015 his first album inspired by the Chicago house scene of the 90's and which was distributed by the legendary English distributor Lobster Theremin, this new opus “TAPE 1” pays homage to the UK Jungle movement of the late 1990's. The album released on October 2, 2022 will be available in limited audio cassette edition and digitally through our distributor UNDERSCOPE.

Samuel Ricciuti, aka D.B.Y. (Dog Bless You), is a New Canadian artist of French-Italian origin, queer and active in the LGBTQ+ community. He has been producing music since the late 1990s, starting as a beatmaker and DJ for hip-hop bands, before discovering electronic music in 1995 in clubs such as Rex and free parties. Initially focused on downtempo and breakbeat genres, his productions later drew inspiration from Detroit's UK electro bass and European minimal techno scenes.
Ricciuti has released several albums under the moniker Dog Bless You (and later as D.B.Y.), his most recent release, La Science du langage, paying tribute to his breakbeat roots. Additionally, he is the manager and founder of the Chez.Kito.Kat Records label. Ricciuti has also worked on music for documentaries, dance and contemporary art projects. In 2009, he collaborated with artist Daniel Buren on the soundtrack for one of Buren’s works at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Luxembourg. After more than 25 years on the European and Canadian electronic music scenes, Ricciuti is still active as DJ and producer, performing internationally.

D.B.Y. : "I was sick when I recorded on a rainy summer afternoon in Montréal, I did an improvisation where I dug into my playlists, trying to maintain a bpm not too high and groovy bass lines (and acid at times) quite coherent, the thing that I would play in “relaxed” mode but while keeping the dancefloor idea. it's good to record with a little fever, it gives another approach!"

Salima Bouaraour-Shadya is a multifaceted figure active in Montreal’s electronic music scene, journalism, and nightlife.

Producer, co-founder of Chez.Kito.Kat Records, and music journalist for a leading magazine, she has also served on various committees dedicated to rethinking and shaping nightlife culture in Montreal.

For a decade, she was active in Europe as a singer-songwriter and performer within an electroclash band.

Her recent release with French producer Shizuka was featured in UNDERSCOPE’s 2024 selection (Paris). She is also a member of the duo Safia Nihil with her longtime collaborator D.B.Y. Together, they recently released their debut EP, which premiered live at Mutek Festival last summer.

She has performed with numerous electro and techno collectives across Montreal’s underground scene and shared her mixes on Kanal Pompidou (Brussels), Radio Flouka (Paris), and Radio Nopal (Mexico City).

Her new EP, Spread Love, revisits the atmospheric drum’n’bass that shaped her youth, blending it with wider influences. Across two tracks, she explores the harmony between soft kicks, deep basslines, ethereal vocals, layered textures, and piano tones — deep, dreamy, and danceable.
