Head of electro division - Kodek - has returned, to put up this little gem for adoption. The 'Soul Crasher' single is something why we keep the guy in our sight. The bottom is lined with mellow electronica, while the warm roaring synth wistfully sings about a beautiful girl…Electronica is nicely dosed, and together with the melody it forms an ice-melting piece, with many emotions. 

There are also two other nice little fellows coming with the original one: first comes the reserved, but passionate, sometimes a bit neurotic brother from Planet4, talking about that same girl in other words. The other one is from an old mate, "tshabee", and his version was surely bred on steroids, but still is a nice way to express own thoughts on the same issues. 

We proudly represent 'Soul Crasher' in Kodek color.

Hajós, singer and lyricist of “The Unbending Trees” dives deep into melancholy with dusty piano ballads, unsolicited noises and old, malfunctioning synthesizers. This is Chi Recordings calling on to raise the arms and cross them to form an X overhead. Dare to connect hungry lips on the gently snipped chakra of ever-floating tunes, and slurp the guts of it. Magic vibrations called out for a place, where resonation is not muted by the noisy highway of the mainstream. What a luck we have devilish taste for music, and the oracle's genious on foreseeing how to avoid being banal. It has been a decade since Chi Recordings opened a genre free source where audio-hikers could always stop for sniff a bit of ambient, have a nip of techno or breakbeat, might as well fill their packs with dubby, housy, you name it substance...
While we are clapping our own backs, because of many goals exceeded, we also retrospect on all the twisted releases we've made, devotees we've gained, remarkable producers we've come across, and on how our vision could make it through to others across lands. So happy we are... Let us initiate the forthcoming ten years with a range of delicacies that are going to be released one after another in the following months.

Gombulator is a free Kontakt instrument based on a rare portable synth from the early '80s. The Yamaha PSR-15 has six preset sounds plus a set of drums, all of which were meticulously sampled before arranging them into the twisted interface of Gombulator.

The instrument has been heavily used on Hungarian Synth Pop duo, The Gomb's album released on Chi-Recordings.

Now we're gonna put you in the picture with Zomblaze - the energetic new contestant at Chi's stable - listing a random selection of his instinctive period, looking back on few years. He hit the road in Nyíregyháza, Hungary as a promoter, and soon made his way to the Budapest hip-hop scene in 2006, and took part in some notable productions with local core elements as a beatmaker.

Before you get to the present Zomblaze phenomenon, meet him on his way to consciousness, one step back in time. The three pieces of Machinstruments Vol.1. EP shows tribute to most music genres of his taste - such as glitch-hop, dubstep, electronica - besides the fundamental abstract hip-hop.

'Balkan Kannibalizm' and 'Mind Op' are proper hip-hop sounds, both sharing robust blustering baselines, and electronic intonation, souped up with cuts of voices, or gently streaming background suite.
'Out' is a bit different with its moderate pace. It is built from samples cut from old vinyls, enriched with scratch sounds, showing off a nice wide inventory of hip-hop, that is used properly in all three tracks...
Zomblaze's been through some changes since then, that Machinstruments Vol.2. will reveal next time.

Short Q&A about the mix our friend Zera made for us...

Q.: How did you first come across Chi Recordings?
A.: We had Fine Cut Bodies play at our club nights a few times. The first time I heard Chi tunes was in his sets. Since then I've been a follower and supporter of the label. What I like most about Chi is the diversity it represents, I feel I could do three more mixes just using Chi tracks and they would all be completely different. I included my all time favourites in this one though.

Q.: How did the idea of the mix come about?
A.: One night AMB and I were chatting after an imPro School lecture in the local pub. We thought it would be interesting to hear what kind of mixes would DJs with different backgrounds would create out of the same set of tunes. Even if they did happen to mix the same two tracks after each other, the mixes would probably be very different. That was when I thought I would love to put together my favourite Chi tracks in one set.

Zera - My CHI (continuous dj mix)

We received something very personal material this time, that we give all away to you. ALMA is the word for 'soul' in Spanish, and now we are let to peek in to Cadik's own.

Listeners are not used to such emotional exaltation from Cadik, he is more considered as a producer, who is pushing the envelope with his abstract hip hop, an obsessed of drums, banging beats, and pulsating rhythmics. The basics remained, but the mood is shrouded in a somewhat bittersweet feel, giving a massive depth and finesse to it with the Spanish guitar phrases. Contributing artists - the slam poet Saiid, singer/MC Sena, and Jacksonwille friend Willie Evans Jr. - helped Cadik letting this LP go, the way he felt it right. The only way it was possible.

We are kindly initiating Zomblaze' current wisdom in music production, before twistedly reaching back in time to the second volume of Machinstruments.

The present material is holding on to moderate pace, and shares the common glitch-hop ground with his previous works. Only these tracks are more laid back, with less harsh stimulus on the nerves. The kick-off theme is RKs’ original version of ’Breathe Deep’, that inspired a remix take, and is an extension of the cover artwork, also by the hands of  RK. 'Stratosphere' gives the rock-bottom here, the other sounds are just gathering around it reflectively, unveiling a different musical perception of Zomblaze. 'New Age' has a gently improving, and cleverly shifting pulsation, that leads you through the whole EP unawarely, so much that you don't stop, until listening it all at once.

It was 2008, and after two years of preparation Cadik's debut album was cleared off. Most of his typical flavour was already present then, as he took hip-hop to abstract ways like no other producers in those days.

The title 'Basic' refers to the building blocks that were used: exploding kicks, dusty snares, analogue basses. That's it. Of course it's leveled up with jazzy samples, discursive rhythmics, and so on. On top of the whole thing, Cadik won over some topnotch American and Hungarian rap and soul lyricists to contribute - already on his debut stuff.

This is how things were pulled together to kick off this tribute to the genre that has given so much to our beloved Cadik. It is a pleasure to finally represent this release in digital on Chi.

"Rolling Stone" is a trippy downtempo collaboration with James Cocozza, where you can hear the psychedelic synth sounds of the 70s mixed with some cinematic vibes, while "Rite on" is a more strict and driving tune with lots of rhythmic changes and frightening atmospheres... Definitely dark room and movie compatible tunes, but take a listen by yourself to decide!
