Releasing Next On Man Power’s Me Me Me Label 9th December 2016


The first release on Man Power’s Me Me Me saw FACT mag travel to Mexico to get inside the head of the Geordieman in Mexico. Next up for the label is a comeback record from Last Waltz, the trio with which Man Power first ever released, featuring three new, original tracks, and a remix from the first ever recorded collaboration of Tel Aviv’s Red Axes (I’m A Cliche) & Naduve (Disco Halal).


Last Waltz are Lee Forster (Lizards) Mick Rolfe (The Great Curve) and Geoff Kirkwood (Man Power). Outside of their solo projects, Last Waltz have released on labels including Futureboogie, Endless Flight (Mule Musiq), Tusk Wax, Lets Play House, Is It Balearic, and many more. After a two year break from producing together, the three North East England born producers finally felt brave enough to suffer the inevitable studio fist fights and tantrums that have always occurred during their creative process. This latest session has resulted in potentially their most cohesive and impressive output to date, with an EP that swings between deep excursions, psychedelic disco and industrial electro, only to have Red Axes and Naduve take the track into an altogether more low-slung and feral direction.


Me Me Me is shaping up to be an imprint for crate diggers, blurring the boundaries of electronic music and forging new channels for the dancefloor. Future contributions are incoming from Axel Boman, Mike Simmonetti, Chida, Fort Romeau, Hammer, Rex The Dog, Daniel Maloso, Last Waltz, James Hadfield (as Elizabeth Collective) and of course Man Power.


BACKGROUND
Man Power has risen to prominence over the past few years through a beguiling versatility that is eminent in both his DJ and production style, leading to key releases on ESP Institute, John Talabot’s Hivern Discs, Permanant Vacaction and Throne of Blood. He currently holds residencies at the esteemed Topaz Deluxe in his new station of Monterrey and at the equally chic MN Roy of Mexico City and his critically acclaimed 2015 album on Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant led to his title as one of XLR8R’s Artists of the Year.

The man was a fickle menace, a jungle maniac. This tropical bastard haunted the temples creating havoc for the local tribesmen and women who lived happily in peace nearby. He had never made his peace with the forest in the same way that the others had and as a result he had been quickly outlawed from the crew. Now he was left to fend for himself, hunting and eating the fruits of the wild. 

Man Power takes us on an exuberant journey through the tall trees as he showcases his "Tropical Bastard" project on Non At Animal Records. The release is accompanied by fresh remixes such as this edit by Frank T Butters.

Man Power is a figure in house music that we consistently enjoy hearing from. As the production alias of UK born music maker Geoff Kirkwood, the moniker was initially brought into life as an anonymous project in a bid to allow him to explore the limits of genres. With his ‘Tropical Bastard’ project, he returns to Not An Animal Records, two years after making his debut on the label, and does so with great effectiveness.

Tropical Bastard ‘1’ sees Kirkwood fully submit to his cinematic leanings, with a cosmic, Italo-tinged stomper that keeps surprising all the way till the end, whilst Tropical Bastard ‘2’ gives license to a more playful side. Out now, including remixes by Lord Of The Isles and Frank T Butters.

Premiere: Man Power - Tropical Bastard 1 [Not An Animal Records]

Across the street from where Trouw used to be, lies a nice little hotel. It was in the basement of this hotel, where a curious meeting happened. Something so coincidental and so unassumingly trivial, that even the slightest event of randomness could have prevented this from ever happening, yet it did happen and here we are. 
This curious meeting was the result of an open studio door of Nachtbraker, and the hint of disco coming out the door, where Dr. San Proper just happened to pass by in search of whatever it is he searches for at 10 am on a Tuesday. The good doctor decided to walk in, greeted Nachtbraker in his ordinary weird way and casually grabbed a microphone. Nachtbraker pressed record, Dr. Proper got his inner Mick Jagger on, and behold: Misses, madame, mademoiselle was born: an up-tempo disco groove with Nachtbraker’s touch of loose arrangement, and San Proper’s amazing vocals. We asked our good friends and great producer duo Session Victim to re-interpret M.m.m. and they gave it a great dreamy-but-groovy twist, adding pads and shufﬂing hi-hats. 
We had already heard Nachtbraker working on a deep house – meets – afro track a while back and he made 2 versions of this track to complement the EP. Hamdi is probably one of the most euphoric tracks in his discography to date, and it’s one you’re likely to hear a lot in the coming time. With the use of chopped vocals (we’ll let you ﬁgure out the source material) and a teasing build up, the track breaks down into a lovely chant, adding energy with every bar without ever coming close to being tacky or overproduced. The alternate version is an excursion into 808 booty territory, using different chops, alienating loops and yes, even a siren.
