Cabin Fever (Dark)

Chiaroscuro are a psychedelic rock recording project based in Fife, Scotland, formed in 2010 by long-time musical amigos Trent & Gogs.

Caught off guard & sun-stroked into a pleasant creative delirium by the uncharacteristically summery Fife summer of 2010, they took an unconscious holiday from real life & conjured up an album's worth of droning inner-space music while waiting for the world to turn.

These tracks were intended as a starting point for an improvisation-based psychedelic rock group that could spontaneously craft monolithic grooves with mighty melodies and cosmic lyrics. Brother Billy joined on bass in the autumn and Chiaroscuro was born.

Writing continued as the band searched for a percussionist to complete the line-up but no-one suitable could be found. Exasperated, Trent decided to leave Scotland for India in Nov 2011.

Unsure how long it would be until they were all in the same continent again, the band hastily arranged a recording session two days before Trent's departure. In 4 hours the band laid down the beginnings of the two tracks which are Chiaroscuro's only released works to date. Mike Graham was kind enough to join forces, playing divine rhythmic vibrations onto the skins once more; Trent layered up the vocals alongside the rhythm guru (in between inner silence) & Billy engineered the micro-session.

As Trent trimmed the mullet, polished his staff & walked his goat in the Himalayas, the music was fleshed out by Billy & Gogs at Q-Ten studios. Recorded exclusively during full moons between 5am and 6am, the tracks took over 2 years to near completion before Trent returned to Scotland (in summer of 2014) to help finish the job.

Work was completed during the partial solar eclipse of October 2014 and the result is the double a-side Dark | Light.

Like the Pheonix they flew too close to the sun, then burnt out and faded away... will they rise again? Only time will tell... till then my friends stay detuned.
