Chiaroscuro is a four-piece band, but was conceived as a nameless duo-project in the earnest of 2014 by guitarist Arne and drummer Yannick. Both were eager to create and develop musical ideas in the range of post-rock and -metal, stoner-rock and sludge-metal. Tags are often quite determining, so we'd prefer to describe Chiaroscuro as a dark/light or heavy/soft contrasting wall of sound, without ever losing the tension of the moment, always accompagnied by an air of atmospheric enigma. Nicolas joined the line-up in March and the three-piece finished a first song that same day. Bands like Isis, Neurosis, Mastodon, Cult of Luna, Amenra, Kyuss and Opeth are held close, but ambient atmospheric soundscapes as found in Sigur Ros, Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd are no less important in the bigger picture. Summer 2014: vocalist and bass player Lennart joins in and adds a big deal to sound and vision. So far Chiaroscuro has written about 50 minutes of music.
