‘Screwdriver’ was Above & Beyond’s smash instrumental single from 2021. Jono, Tony and Paavo flipped the script on their established club sound with this fan-favourite track from the trio’s sold out Group Therapy 450 festival in London last September.

"It’s fair to say most Above & Beyond recordings exist in different forms before they finally reach the festival stage, as ambient beds, acoustic sessions or early groove sketches. ‘Screwdriver’ always made a statement in its supercharged breakbeat guise, but we could always hear echoes of a classic house idea in there as well. Odd One Out requires me to sometimes release records that are a bit...odd. So after the 2 first releases I decided it’s time to unleash a hint of Gouda. The track asks ”Is This Trance?” and is fuelled by some gargantuan bouncy saw riffs that I picked up from my 13-year old brain which at the time was listening to Southside Spinners and Gatecrasher compilations. Slightly slower and more mature, like some of my favourite cheeses are, this is quite close to musical Gorgonzola with some hedonistic grapes.

Is This Trance?

Chicane (Nicholas Bracegirdle) is one of the most prolific producers, composers and hit makers born out of nineties club culture and the trance music scene.

He has six albums under his belt since his seminal debut in 1997 ‘Far From The Maddening Crowds’ which gave him his first UK top 20 chart position with the ground breaking ‘Offshore’. 

Chicane has also co-written and produced for Bryan Adams, Cher, Natasha Bedingfield, Paul Young, William Orbit, Ferry Corsten, Owl City, Kate Walsh, Christian Burns and Armin Van Buuren.
