Emotional Response starts 2015 with a 4 part split (Schleißen) series aimed at highlighting artists pushing the sonic boundaries of electronic experimentalism.   Starting with Erß001, featuring Abul Mogard and Harmonious Thelonious.

Emotional Response is pleased to announce a special 4 part, split series of LPs that explores the further reaches of ambient, drone and rhythmic percussion, known here as Schleißen.

To start the series is 2 artists long admired by the label. The music of Abul Mogard stayed pretty much under the radar. His lyrical electronic timbres and pulsating drones have been released on 2 solo and 1 joint cassette-only albums on Steve Moore and Anthony Paterra’s (Zombi) VCO Recordings. A big favourite of the label, Dizziness That Shakes Rivers And Mountains is near 19 minutes of pure, modular beauty. Play loud for full o.o.b.e. effect.

On the flip, a more well known name in Stefan Schwander’s percussion based project, Harmonious Thelonious. First catching the label’s attention with a series of drum heavy EPs before moving more towards the dance floor on his most recent releases.

On a visit to play the infamous Salon Des Amatuers for the Musiccargo album launch in late 2013, Stefan kindly passed on a CDR of “more experimental pieces” and on hearing these, the idea of Schleißen was first born. 2 pieces of Steve Reich inspired minimalist explorations weld to become an incessant psychoacoustic cycle, melodically deconstructing and reconstructing to create a continuous harmonic movement.

A series then created for the more discerning ear, so empty your mind and (un)listen.

Vintage & Morelli (a.k.a. Marko Cubric) presents his triumphant debut artist album, "My Rose Enchanted Destiny", featuring a dozen brand new, genre-crossing tracks. Arguably the album's most memorable cut and the official first single, "Daydream" is Vintage & Morelli's first 4/4 offering in the tracklist and a song that epitomizes his gift for blending myriad influences and electronic subgenres into a single track. The song has already received early radio support from Above & Beyond, one of Vintage & Morelli's most generous and distinguished advocates.

Unforgettable vocal tracks also highlight "My Rose Enchanted Destiny", including "Sweet Surrender". Featuring a poignant performance by rising American singer-songwriter Arielle Maren, this thrilling cut evolves from a deep and moody chilled house cut to a peak-hour, trance-influenced stormer. Label newcomer Nina Schofield appears for the second time on the uplifting, 80s-inspired "We Are Future"; her vocal is both soulful and exhilarating.

From the haunting, underground gem "Lullaby" to the sparkling drum & bass title cut, the disparate sounds of Vintage & Morelli's compositional and profoundly evocative debut album reward listeners of all tastes.

When Juan Trippe took that last flight little did he know that his re-incarnated self would be an electronic pioneer. In tandem with his co-pilot Guido Zen (his own father also a pilot) and Kyle Martin (from the Land Of Light) they formed Brain Machine and scaled the highest Peaks to bring back music both unearthly and intensely human. 

Are we all not stardust anyway? This music proves it, takes you out flips you over and rolls you in stardust.

Don’t try and think it through, make sense of it, grasp it – just wander in wonder and bask in beauty.

"Before Jon became the world-famous and respected composer he is today I had the privilege of doing some sessions with him. This is something that we started 8 or 9 years ago and the original idea was less than 90 seconds long. I always loved the feeling it gave me so I decided to develop it for this album as I felt it fitted into what I was trying to say. The words came last. This extract was shown to me by my friend (and one of Belfast’s finest actors), Lalor Roddy because he thought it had a lot in common with a short film I directed called ‘I AM HERE‘, which deals with family and reconnection in the afterworld. It comes from a book called AENEID VI, which was the last work Seamus Heaney translated before he passed; which made it even more special as I consider this to be a very Northern Irish-themed album. When I first read it I was stunned by the similarities and wrote a letter to Mick Heaney (Seamus Heaney’s son) asking for permission. The Heaney family gave me permission (which I am forever grateful for) and the next step was securing the voice of another Northern Irish great, Stephen Rea. A huge thank you to Stephen and the Heaney family for helping me make this happen. It was a perfect way to finish this album." - David Holmes
