Label head Christophe Salin is back on his own imprint which he co-founded with his partner and talented artist Daria Salin several years ago. Starting off by just releasing his own material, the label then shifted to releasing other artists, beginning with a stellar VA and moving on to include now well-known producers such as Sable Blanc, Diamond, Saint Paul and Tour-Maubourg. This is Christophe’s first solo release on his own imprint in two years, entitled “It’s Probably Me”, and it dives deep.Today we premiere the A2 and title track from the forthcoming record. A classic driving bass, kick and hat combo open up the track as introspective keys slowly creep in. As the piano melody takes centre stage, a haunting, introspective mood is developed while still being carried by the rolling bass beneath it. Salin employs a classic formula to achieve a simple yet supremely emotional track while keeping the sonic textures clean and polished. This one is made for dark and sweaty small rooms in the late night hours. We can’t wait until the opportunity is there to tap our toes to this one in our favourite haunts.The rest of the EP is no slouch either with some further nods to the classic deep house sound that we know and love, reaching for influences from Detroit to Chicago and beyond. It also includes a stellar remix of the title track by Iron Curtis that’s not to be missed.

Best known for a globally lauded mix series that’s over the years included the likes of Carl Craig, Motor City Drum Ensemble, DJ Koze and most recently Moodymann - DJ Kicks have also maintained a tradition of syphoning off 12”s of tracks originally premiered within the mix series and packaging them up with remixes hand selected by the compiling artist. This process has most recently brought with it Melchoir Productions Ltd and Oskar Offermann remixes of John Talabot as well as a Komon & Will Saul revision of Jabru. Next in line is a collaborative production from Seth Troxler and Amsterdam’s Tom Trago under their new production guise ‘T&T Music Factory’ which comes inclusive of remixes from Prins Thomas and Maxi Mill.

‘De Natte Cel’ was originally aired within luminary Seth Troxler’s contribution to the DJ Kicks series back in October 2015 - an offering that ‘haemorrhages delicacy and elegance’ according to Crack Magazine. Said to be inspired by the closing ceremony of Trouw - the track takes its title from the building’s origins as a printing house with ‘De Natte Cel’ translating as ‘Wet Cell’ - a room within which employees would wash ink from themselves post work.

Opening up with flanged pin drops and a buoyant thud, the track gathers with it allaying synth chords and a soft, bubbling bass line as it rolls on. Mangled signals and brisk hat shuffles pepper the top end as vocals bleed in and out of focus generating a rich with a chilly atmosphere. Norse producer and Full Pupp owner Prins Thomas then blows some warm Balearic air into the package as his reworking churns and gathers tension throughout. Rush Hour affiliate Maxi Mill then completes the record and propels the original forward with popping percussion and a sharp, purposeful bass line that caps off another fine addition to the DJ Kicks catalogue and a fitting homage to a bonafide institution of Dutch dance music

Berlin-based Peer Du has crafted a dreamy, luxurious sound in recent years, which is no wonder why the Haŵs crew have summoned him to unite with their ever-budding family tree. The Welsh label and party-starters have been quietly watering their roots throughout the previous months, and with its latest re-potting for its fourth EP comes a provocative collection of tracks that slink outwards from the ether like a polychrome, sonic mosaic.

The final track on the release, “5 AM Interlude”, reaches out for minimalism with a trusting hand – and its softly clutched back through the interlocks of old SNES samples and scarce productions that allow each element to breathe and flow. Bonus points for guessing which game the sounds were lifted from.
Peer Du’s “For Those” EP is like watching an expert tailor nimbly thread the eye of a needle with a gossamer fibre before effortlessly combining together textures, colours and adornments without once making a wrong movement.
