I am going to try something different.  I am going to share music at the same rate that the music changes me.  I will not wait for the music to be perfect before sharing it. If a song changes me in some way, small or big, I want it to change you too. Before the want for perfection changes the song into something it was never meant to be.

These past few months have been really tough on me.  Work has been demanding, personal relationships have been slipping, and I've been so exhausted trying to pretend that everything is okay.  

This song, in addition to many months of studying and practicing sound design where I have made bigger strides than I thought was possible, is a result of letting go of the expectation that I have to be a perfect person to be happy. 

At one point, I thought my ears and my heart plateaued in their abilities to manipulate sound to be the shiny thing I've been chasing in my music creation journey. And I chase these things in my career and personal relationships too. And it's soul crushing to see this stagnation in any aspect of our lives.

Creating this song helped me metamorphose.  Like the caterpillar that watches birds from the branch- maybe I forgot how powerful time is and what it can do to perspective.  Though I think caterpillars that watch birds are thinking about other things- but you get my point. Caterpillar sees bird fly. Caterpillar is sad they can't fly. Caterpillar waits and grows wings. Caterpillar flies. Caterpillar happy.  

But I digress.  In the case of this song, the way I use simple things like panning, reverb, frequency cut off, etc.- these are things I have always used in my music.  But what is different about this song is that I automated these elements with great intention and often.  There are probably close to a hundred automations happening in this song.  

And when I listen back to it, I think about all of the things I do to try to make my music and my life good.  I think of all of the tears, sweat, and blood that goes into creating the life I want.  And each time I listen to this song, I am reminded that as long if we keep trying and have intention, we will get to where we need to be. 

We might find that we don't have to be perfect to be happy.  And I hope after listening to this song you can be reminded of this too.
