"Song of the Sea" is a piece of music, quite simply, inspired by the ocean. Gentle ocean waves provide a soothing backdrop to the track, which features a variety of textures and timbres.

Ethereal siren-like vocals glide over dreamy pads and flute melodies. Twinkling melodies cascade, rising and falling like waves over the sea shore. Gritty and psychedelic textures add dimension, depth and interest.

"Song of the Sea" was inspired by my many visits to Cape Town, overlooking the ocean and seeing its vastness, magnitude and glory. The ocean is all at once soothing but full of movement. Gentle at times but can turn tempestuous. These juxtapositions of what the ocean is lie at the heart of the track. The deeper you dive in, the more you will be able to hear.

"Song of the Sea" will be available on all major music platforms from 25th June 2025.

"Bluebell Woods" is a piece of music about hope after loss. Inspired by bluebells that grew next to a house I used to occupy in Northumberland, the track is centred around a beautiful piano melody, set against a backdrop of forest foley and birdsong.

"We All Fall" (preview) - Malificent - out now

I was 17 in 2007 when I first opened a DAW and tried to make sense of the sounds in my head. No roadmap, no mentors—just passion, curiosity, and the magic of Psytrance pulling me forward. That spark became Iliuchina—my first project, my sanctuary, my rebellion, my identity.

This set marks the first time I’ve played as Iliuchina in Europe in over 10 years. It wasn’t planned. It happened last minute, but felt deeply me. I played a few of the tracks that made me fall in love with music in the first place—the ones that made a 17-year-old girl believe she could speak through sound.

Returning to this project after so long felt like opening an old diary, only to find the words still alive. Thank you to everyone who danced with me, who listened, who felt. This one meant everything.

China Rose is the project of Rebecca Broadbent who was born in England in 1989.
 
From a young age, she took lessons in classical piano, flute, violin and singing, before composing her own music and songs at the age of 13. When she was 19, she took to the stage with her piano in clubs and bars across the North East of England, performing her compositions and acoustic versions of her songs. She carries her many years of classical music experience with her to this day, to create a fusion of classical influences with electronic sounds.
 
She first discovered the hypnotic and enchanting world of psychedelic trance when she was 16 years old, and later began DJing at parties and club nights. She subsequently took classes in music production where she developed and cultivated her skills. She now produces psychedelic trance, describing her style as a combination of ethereal night psy and euphoric twilight. Melodies are a prominent feature in her tracks, coupled with driving energy and nocturnal sounds.
 
She released her first track with South African label Terror Hippie Records in 2021 as part of a compilation featuring various artists. She subsequently signed with Cape Town’s MMD Records in the same year.
 
Her debut E.P "Dark Whispers" was released in 2021 and reached number 3 on the BeatPort psytrance releases chart. That was followed in 2022 by her second E.P, "Deadly Nightshade" which peaked at the same position in the chart. 
 
Her third E.P “Queen of Darkness” was released in 2023 with Kaos Krew Records and reached number 1 on the BeatPort psytrance releases chart.
 
Her fourth E.P "fairy core" was released by herself independently, and reached number 4 on the BeatPort psytrance releases chart.

Her fifth E.P "Tears of Lilith", another independent release, came out on 10th January 2024 and reached number 7 on the BeatPort psytrance releases chart.

In April 2024, she released her anthemic single, "PsyBarbie", which was inspired by the sexism, pressures and double standards women face in all walks of life, but particularly the cruel and abusive online trolling female artists receive in the electronic music industry.

Her sixth E.P "In The Midnight Forest" was released in June 2024.

In 2022, she began a collaboration project – “Fallen Angel” - with South African producer Andre Muller, aka Singularity. The debut E.P from that project was released on 30th August 2023 and reached number one on the BeatPort psytrance chart. In the same year, she started her ambient project, “the Story of the Rose”.

In 2024, she began her dark ambient techno project under the alias "Malificent".
 
China Rose has performed in her home country as well as in South Africa, including at Alien Safari’s legendary New Year’s Eve party, Little Forest Festival. She is part of the UK-based AudioAddictz roster.
 
China Rose’s music draws influence from the organic sounds of nature and the darkness of human experiences. She describes all her music, on some level, as expressions of her journey to try to find light in the darkness, whether that be the darkness in the world, or darkness within ourselves. She is passionate about the legacy and origins of South African trance music, and believes that music within the twilight genre can be enjoyed either when the sun is rising, or when the sun is setting, depending on where the night has taken you.
