After the success of ‘A Is For Acid’ Perc Trax Ltd continues with the first ever collaboration between the London brutalist dream team of label boss Perc and regular Perc Trax artist Truss (R&S, Avian, OCS) for an EP of no-bullshit, hardware based techno. 

Three tracks, each recorded fully live in one take. No second attempts, no re-edits and no processing of the tracks after they were recorded. Add mastering by Matt Colton and you have one of Perc Trax's rawest releases so date. 

As with A Is For Acid the first pressing of this 12” will be on clear vinyl with a full colour double-sided artwork insert by Jonny Costello, who also created the artwork for Perc’s ‘Wicker & Steel’ and ‘Labour Division’ by Forward Strategy Group.

Function’s tale begins with a gregarious mother who would keep him occupied as rookie selector for neighbourhood gatherings while growing up in Brooklyn and New Jersey. Music was his world, and it wasn’t long before he found himself standing in awe before Jeff Mills in 90s NYC at the infamous nerve centre of Club Kid hedonism Limelight, where he went on to pick up a Thursday-night residency himself. Few DJs can claim to have been around during such a moment in club history, but ten years later came another. His friendships with Regis, Silent Servant and Female turned into the much acclaimed collective Sandwell District, a pivotal sound for an era that forced everyone’s attention towards Berlin. There he became Berghain resident and played a role in shaping the club’s fabled musical opus. In the years since (and following Sandwell’s dissolution) he’s matured in his own right, with a number of mesmeric releases (most recently ‘Green EP’ released on his self-run imprint Infrastructure back in May), collaborations with the likes of Vatican Shadow, Luke Slater and Steve Bicknell, a heavy touring schedule that criss-crosses the world at rapid clip and Bassiani residency to boot. Function’s techno is an ambient fog in which sinister arctic synths and perilous rhythms collide to produce an exquisite fusion that would be hard to mistake for anyone else. Those grainy textures, subterranean ripples and punishing kick drums are a hypnotic rework of his many influences: 90s loops with a more modern and sharper industrial edge. Bassiani Podcast 186 is an impassioned live-recording from the club that weaves through a number of hammering tracks and steadily climbs towards its furious climax. A hair-raising three-hour beast courtesy of this decorated techno behemoth.

Patrick Gräser, better known as Answer Code Request, has carved out a distinctive niche in the techno landscape with his hybrid musical style. His innovative approach, characterized by a fusion of pad-driven harmonies, intricate breaks, and an industrial tone, has set him apart since his emergence on the esteemed Ostgut Ton label in 2012.
This breakthrough led to a prestigious residency at Berghain, further cementing his influence in the scene. Gräser’s work, including various releases and remixes for notable labels such as Ostgut Ton, MDR, Dolly Deluxe, and Monkeytown Records, has garnered widespread acclaim.
Gräser’s journey from a forest workshop near his hometown to the forefront of techno is marked by his wide-ranging musical tastes. His nights, spent mixing records from Hardwax and Delirium, contributed to the development of his characteristic sound, a blend that includes elements of jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, Detroit, IDM, and UK bass. This unique amalgamation of styles is evident in his early releases on Music Man and his own ACR imprint, showcasing a talent that transcends traditional techno boundaries.

Tatsuya Kanamori goes by the name DJ Shufflemaster, a veteran driver for rolling hard-groove still going strong after three long decades. In his native Japan (around the time names like Takaaki Itoh and DJ Nobu were on the rise), his earliest ventures were closely tied to the work of Tokyo’s Subvoice, dynamic techno through and through. His arrival in Europe coincided with his 17 track debut album on Tresor Records, EXP (rereleased 2023), and proved his mettle as one of Tokyo’s best and brightest exports. Earmarked by talents like Ben Sims and Cari Lekebusch, those sounds became a staple for those in the know. 2014 saw his proprietor run label Shiki Kyokai kick into gear with a number of EPs, ruthless, iron-willed techno for the small hours, and a recent addition alongside Tensal, Pergo and Eduardo de la Calle has renewed his star for 2025 as well. Pluralistic and shrewd in their vision, his vaulting basslines flutter headlong into surging incarnations of the same wind he’s been riding since before the new millennium. With a spate of recent interest in the minimal styles of his starting decade, his work has found a new resonance among fans both at home and abroad. DJ Shufflemaster and his techno are keeping on rolling to the rhythm of his breakneck sounds. Tornado is vast and cinematic. A thundering kick becomes ripe with swelling strings followed by a bright, wistful lead and long, suspenseful breaks that take the track to filmic levels of poignancy. Glacier is more measured in its expression, with icy keys playing out a restrained sentimentality over a serene, earthy groove. Voyager is energetic; crisp and crunchy percussion melds into an ever-moving melody that wavers in and out of the foreground.
