My interest in pop music having begun in the late 50s, bloomed in the late 60s and 70s and continued to develop from then on, I'm always amazed when others who claim a similar pattern of musical interest development are unaware of Crowded House and especially of Neil Finn. 

I am even more amazed when people who reached their musical "maturity" in the 80s are unaware of Crowded House and Neil Finn. What the hell were you listening to? Sex Pistols and Clash? That's good, too. Nevertheless, if this tune escaped your notice, I feel sorry for you.

I'm Down—Blue Moons

We released a mix of this tune late last night which was pretty good.
But...
This mix sounds better as I listen:

1)  while taking a pee in my bathroom
2)  while standing in the hall outside the studio
3)  while standing in the laundry room
4) On cheap headphones
5)  even while sitting in front of the goddam studio monitors

You can hear David and Brian more definitively. This is a good thing. I won't go into particulars of what I did.

To quote David, who was paraphrasing my email signature:

"I think it's good to mix as if we might, in fact, make the kickass-ness we intend, whether people who suck like it or not."

The take-home message here is:

So_You_Want_to_Be_a_Rock_&_Roll_Star—Blue_Moons

I (Chazz) have always been a fan of Todd Rundgren, dating back to his days with the Nazz—which is way back in the late sixties. They played the second free concert at Lee Park, after Steve Miller started what turned out to be a very short-lived experiment in rousing a marvelous hippie community spirit—which, of course, Dallas could not support because it was then, and continues not to be, a place that supports anything for any reason but potential financial profit.

This tune was supposed to be the follow-up hit single after Rundgren's solo release of "I Saw The Light," a single off of his album "Something/Anything." I always assumed it was a huge hit because it was with me and my small circle of friends. But it didn't sell. I could never understand why. And I still think this was one of the tunes that inspired a whole genre of music—Power Pop. It is one of my favorite songs in the world. What you hear here is just me and David.

Couldn't I Just Tell You—Blue Moons

This tune by the Youngbloods was supposed to be a hit, but it was too dark and introspective. That's why I (Chazz) loved it. 

David and I previously recorded the Youngbloods' greatest hit, "Get Together," which is also on this playlist. This tune is the perfect yang to that song's yin.

This version is just Dave and me. None of the other Blue Moons were available.


Darkness Darkness

A jumble of sixties and seventies rock and pop music favorites rendered with perhaps more exuberance than skill. 

Today we call ourselves CD&N—Chazz, Dave & Niall. Next week we may be CDN&R, because Russell showed up for a change. And then there are the rare times that we are CDJ&N, because Josh had some time to contribute lead guitar. 

Regardless, it all pretty much sounds the same, if you happen to like this sort of thing. 

We do.
