Christoph Vogel (Ghostloop) about his album: “It’s a collection of nine ambient pieces — soundscapes shaped by personal moments and quiet shifts I experienced over the past year, many of them spent in nature.

I worked with field recordings I captured during that time, letting them carry traces of place and memory. While writing, I also began building my Eurorack modular system, slowly integrating its sounds into the tracks as they took shape.

'Almost Autumn' reflects a quiet cycle of the year — the slow transitions, inner stillness, and changing atmosphere that come with time passing”.

Christoph Vogel, known as Ghostloop (Germany), weaves immersive soundscapes shaped by the serene rhythms of nature. Drawing from the ambient textures of field recordings and grounding them with deep, fluid basslines, his compositions echo the quiet moods of Northern Germany and the Baltic Sea coast. Rooted in a deep sense of place, Ghostloop’s music invites listeners to pause, drift, and sink into gentle, emotive layers of sound.

Ghostloop - Almost Autumn

Drift, aka Alessandro Ferrario, defines his style as “Slow-motion electroacoustic sound paintings”, this definition comes from the tempo he uses, 40 BPM with 4/4 time signature, the main instrument he uses, an upright piano, and the layers crafted using the instruments you can find in orchestra, cello, viola, violin and double bass most of the times. He then elaborates all the patterns, adding modern era VSTs to create layers, like a painter does with paint.

In “Fragments of a Distant Now”, the artist explored time and memories, unfolding slow rhythms and digital manipulation to create textured atmospheres, which, like memories, can convey either relaxation or tension. Using delays, echoes, reverbs, and distortions, he crafts a sense of glitch in sound that mirrors the imperfections of fading memories.

"Coming from a drum and bass background (first release 2003). Took a producing journey from dnb to house over techno. Doing an ambient project was a long-standing wish. In 2023 I got in touch with Atlantea and they encouraged me to do a debut album for them. In my productions, I include a lot of field recordings layered with samples I dug from old vinyl combined with synthesizers and a lot of reverb. Most of the time there are basslines as well because of my dnb past".

Chitra Podcast #15 Ambient Cat Sneak Peek Mix

Joseph Valentino is a visual artist and musician living in the desert outside Tucson, Arizona. He has been active in electronic music from the time he started DJing at house parties and raves in 1994 and then producing his own music under the moniker of Neglect in 2005. Most of his sonic output is released on his own Bandcamp page Neglectsound but he had tracks on labels such as Boomarm Nation, Shimmering Moods, Adventurous Music, and Harmonic Ooze. 

"I had been thinking about a mix for several months but just couldn't get around to it. It's much easier to put it all together with a set of turntables, a mixer, and a CD deck but over the past few years, I have grown to prefer using Logic Pro to create mixes that don't require beat matching. It gives me the flexibility to add unreleased tracks of my own or make edits to songs or take things out at the last minute without having to re-record the whole session. I tend to get too tied up with working on my own music to refocus my attention on creating mixes so I tend to keep notes with a pad and pencil to get the ideas rolling. This one had some key tracks that I considered to set the tone for the story I wanted to create, it was just a matter of some sewing and patching to get the flow right. ll tracks on this album were created using analogue media, tape loops, and non-musical noises. Tape and vinyl defects become elements of the composition here. In the modern digital era, people are losing touch with tangible reality and living nature, plunging into an artificial, synthetic, and virtual environment. The naturalness and uniqueness of simple things are becoming rarities.

This album was first released on Élan Vital Recordings on September 1, 2021, then was re-released on Rhymes Music in 2022, and now, slightly reworked (brought to perfection), is finally coming out on Chitra Records.

Is This a Mirage or Are We There

Participation mystique refers to the innate human connection to symbolic and imaginative experiences. This symbolic realm exists before or alongside our ability to think analytically or rationally. The idea is strongly linked to projection, as these symbolic or mythic elements naturally extend themselves into the world around us—into people, places, and things, just like how we unconsciously assign color to what we see.

Participation mystique is not just a psychological concept, but an aesthetic principle – a lens through which we perceive art as more than just something we observe; it becomes something inhabited.

In artistic terms, participation mystique can be thought of as a dissolving boundary between the self and the image. In this perspective, any manifestation of art can be perceived not just as an external object, but as an extension of the viewer’s unconscious. Colors, shapes, and atmosphere resonate with inner archetypes – mythical, primordial, emotional – before the mind can name them. This is why abstract compositions can seem hauntingly familiar, or why certain symbols – like a spiral, a doorway, or a shady forest – draw out something ancient, deep, and unconscious from us.
