ll tracks on this album were created using analogue media, tape loops, and non-musical noises. Tape and vinyl defects become elements of the composition here. In the modern digital era, people are losing touch with tangible reality and living nature, plunging into an artificial, synthetic, and virtual environment. The naturalness and uniqueness of simple things are becoming rarities.

This album was first released on Élan Vital Recordings on September 1, 2021, then was re-released on Rhymes Music in 2022, and now, slightly reworked (brought to perfection), is finally coming out on Chitra Records.

KapTep is the ambient\drone project from US-based producer Derek Carter. (Sullivan, Illinois). His compositions are a blend of synth layers, loops, effects, and field recordings with the intent of creating an ever-evolving soundscape. The concept behind the KapTep project was to try creating the style of emotional music that he wanted to listen to himself. Every track should evoke an emotion to which you can write your own story. Rain, static hiss, pops, and crackles are often the foundation layered under melancholy, dreamy compositions.

"Coming from a drum and bass background (first release 2003). Took a producing journey from dnb to house over techno. Doing an ambient project was a long-standing wish. In 2023 I got in touch with Atlantea and they encouraged me to do a debut album for them. In my productions, I include a lot of field recordings layered with samples I dug from old vinyl combined with synthesizers and a lot of reverb. Most of the time there are basslines as well because of my dnb past".

Chitra Podcast #15 Ambient Cat Sneak Peek Mix

Joseph Valentino is a visual artist and musician living in the desert outside Tucson, Arizona. He has been active in electronic music from the time he started DJing at house parties and raves in 1994 and then producing his own music under the moniker of Neglect in 2005. Most of his sonic output is released on his own Bandcamp page Neglectsound but he had tracks on labels such as Boomarm Nation, Shimmering Moods, Adventurous Music, and Harmonic Ooze. 

"I had been thinking about a mix for several months but just couldn't get around to it. It's much easier to put it all together with a set of turntables, a mixer, and a CD deck but over the past few years, I have grown to prefer using Logic Pro to create mixes that don't require beat matching. It gives me the flexibility to add unreleased tracks of my own or make edits to songs or take things out at the last minute without having to re-record the whole session. I tend to get too tied up with working on my own music to refocus my attention on creating mixes so I tend to keep notes with a pad and pencil to get the ideas rolling. This one had some key tracks that I considered to set the tone for the story I wanted to create, it was just a matter of some sewing and patching to get the flow right. Overture. Hope.

Holding Patterns. Sometimes I think I spend too much time in airports.

Low Motion. Originally titled “Slow motion” until I realized there are thousands of songs titled “Slow Motion”. I dropped the “S”. This is “Low Motion”.

Static Lullaby. Probably not really a Lullaby per se, and maybe not ambient. You can decide.

Losing Yourself in the Answer. Perfect.

Go Home. I really am enjoying myself. I’m having a good time, but truth be told I really just want to go home.

One Foot. In this life sometimes the best we can do is put one foot in front of the other.

The Day the Internet Went Away. Inspired by a power outage. What did we used to do before the internet?

Geraniums. I think they are one of my favorite flowers for some reason, I don’t know why.

Seventy Eights. As in 78 RPM records where it all started. There is something fascinating about taking little clips of sound and making them into something else.

Losing Yourself in the Answer

Unidentified Ambient Phenomena (UAP) is a new series by Piscean Daydreams that celebrates unbridled creativity, improvisational composing, and the transformative power of music. The series is designed to showcase ambient music of a cinematic nature with compelling narratives suitable for the big screen. The goal is to entice the listener into deeper states of reflection and engagement with their imagination.

UAP, Vol. 1 is the inaugural album of the series and Piscean Daydreams third solo album on the Ambient Cat Records label. The album represents an evolution of his sound and craft, while focusing on mythic, extraterrestrial, science fiction, and nostalgic themes. It stands as a testament to music’s power to engage the listener in vivid and emotive realms of experience through evocative, cinematic compositions.

All four tracks were initially improvised utilizing an OP-1 Field synthesizer, an Organelle M synthesizer, two Norns Shields, a 128-node grid, a Microcosm effects pedal, and a Teenage Engineering TX-6 mixer/interface, and then enhanced with carefully curated samples and field recordings to create inspiring soundscapes and engaging stories.

This music is best suited for quiet environments and headphones. The intention is to foster a deep listening experience to stimulate the imagination and elicit creative engagement with the music. Each song is a world onto itself and invites the listener to explore the furthest reaches of its sonic horizon.

Track Listing:

1. Neptune’s Embrace
Sink beneath the waves and into Neptune’s embrace, as undulating strings and captivating tones pull you into the depths of his underwater kingdom and realm. This track is designed to induce deep relaxation and generate feelings of weightlessness to mimic the experience of floating in the ocean, while merging with the god of the seas.

2. Transmedium
Emerging from dark, oceanic depths, a mesmerizing craft hovers above the water before ascending into the upper atmosphere and disappearing into space. A dramatic composition, featuring a soaring lead synth, paints an otherworldly scene that pays homage to the transmedium abilities of the craft. As equally at home in the water as in the air, the craft is a sight to behold as it effortlessly ascends into the heavens in-route to deep space.

3. Like Tears in Rain
This track is a homage to the original Blade Runner movie by Ridley Scott and its soundtrack. Evoking the dark and twisted back alleys of dystopian Los Angeles, the track features Vangelis-inspired pads, evocative effects, and field recordings to create a compelling scene straight out of the movie. If you squint hard enough through the rain, then you may catch of glimpse of Deckard lurking in the shadows…

4. Echoes of a Forgotten Past
There was something deeply alluring about the main section of this track when I first improvised and recorded it. It gave me a sense and feeling of nostalgia that had me contemplating how we experience and perceive the past both personally and collectively. To help foster this sense of nostalgia, I added samples to create the aural equivalent of an old vinyl recording that features evocative chanting, resonate bells, a string quartet-inspired arrangement, and a deep drone.

Transmedium

In this album, Adrian continues his exploration of tape-saturated sounds combined with piano and vintage synthesizers. The micro-cassette Dictaphone is used to create sounds evoking nostalgia and melancholy. Although using similar starting points to his last album on Chitra Records this album is darker in mood reflecting certain situations in the world today.

Throughout history, alchemists have captivated our minds with their quests to turn base materials into gold and seek the philosopher's stone. Their work was shrouded in metaphor and mystery, embodying a desire to understand the universe's hidden truths. Similarly, this collection of sounds endeavors to evoke the essence of that magical process.
