For the second episode of Groove Theory, I have the pleasure of showcasing Mike Haddad.
Mike Haddad is an established DJ from Montreal who has been in the scene for close to a decade. His seamless blend of grooves from deep to dark has been moving dance floors for many years. Mesmerizing crowds with hypnotizing soundscapes, Mike has been favouring a sound exploring the vast range of minimal and tech. My set from solstice festival is up on the cloud. 

Solstice is a unique festival happening in the northernmost tip of Finland. Since it’s so far out of civilisation (9 hours drive from Helsinki), the people who choose to attend are actually making the effort to travel that far and are purely there for the music & nature.

At this time of year, the sun in Lapland is never going down... the stage was up on a mountain giving a glowing northern view. I got the dance floor from Ajukaja & Ats who played a live set around 120 bpm and took it from there. It felt like playing at a club but it was at the open wide - probably the absolute perfect settings for me.

I've never been one to record my live sets, but this time I wanted to try and capture the essence of the moment. You can never fully recreate it, but you can feel its energy. I made sure to include the sounds of the room, the raving crowd, and even some funny insights at the end of the set 🙃

Thanks Joni, Denzel, Justus, Daniel and Andy for crafting it all, you are true pros! And to Gabrielle for holding my hand and making your birthday celebration in the woods one to remember! Lastly, thanks Yonti for joining me in purchasing this recorder just days before the festival :)
