"The goal of this mix was to straddle the line between a few different sounds I’m really vibing on right now. We start things off with some haunting melodic house and transition through some indie dance and ultimately land with some peak-time bangers that have been sure bets for me this summer.

I have always been a firm believer in the power of spoken word samples from across the world to elevate house music into a more cerebral place. I have also included a collection of vocal records that tug at the heartstrings and, I hope, pull you into goosebump territory. Great songwriting in any genre is impressive, but I hold a special place in my heart for those producers and vocalists who can bring everything together in an underground record that can also work with a broader audience.

The last time I did an Electronic Groove Podcast was nearly a decade ago! Big thanks to the EG team for their continuing hard work to shine a spotlight on the various elements that make this music and culture special.

On a more somber note, please keep an eye on friends and family that may have gone quiet over the last few weeks or months. Everyone’s dealing with some level of depression, anxiety, and burnout due to the pandemic and the state of our world right now, so try to do your part to help those that may be struggling know that you’re there and feel less alone. I like to imagine sometimes where the music will travel to. Who it will be given to or shared with. Whether it will be played at an after party in London or listened to on a set of headphones while watching the sun rise from behind a mountain in Tibet. I wonder which tracks you'll fall in love with instantly and which will grow on you as time passes. 

I know this is a really long mix and the journey into it and out the other side takes some commitment but, on the plus side, it saves you having to look for anything else to play for ages and ages.

The winter cold was mild as the clock struck midnight on Cityfox Odyssey’s NYE 2020 celebrations. In what proved to be a whirlwind of an amazing night-into-day affair, the jovial DJ duo Andhim took over Kings Hall just after the ball drop, encased in a light box installation - their spaceship and the vehicle to outer realms for the night.  Blasting off their set with tracks that were full of whimsy and mirth, the crowd was overjoyed and elated. Everyone was ready for their first journey of many that night.

Andhim, comprised of Simon Haehnel and Tobias Müller, are the best friends you always want to have around: lighthearted, cheeky, and most importantly - they never take themselves too seriously. This mantra and joie de vivre is reflected in the musicality of their sets, which has become a genre of so-called “Super House” and has endeared them to the crowds. Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Andhim has quite the repertoire of productions over the years since 2010, with classic tracks like “Wizard of Us” in 2013 and other releases on Get Physical, SuperFriends, and Monaberry.

This riveting live recording is emblematic of Andhim’s funky put-a-smile-on-your-face style mixed in with smooth and sexy rhythms that one cannot help but move and groove to. Strong believers of closing out on an uplifting note, Andhim cinched the three hour journey with feel-good tunes “Lunar Fling (Aera Remix)” by RSS Disco and “Last Song” by yours truly. As they have said themselves, “The last track needs to be strong. In a way, it's the centerpiece of the entire set. It should engage everyone and lift your own spirits. If it does, everyone walks home in the perfect state of mind.” 

Times may be tough and we miss our friends on the dance floor, however let this mix bring you to a sunnier mindset, perhaps a smile and a little two-step or two.
