Tristesse Contemporaine - Fire (Kasper Bjørke Version)

New York's Nancy Whang was part of LCD Soundsystem. Did vocals on big tunes of Soulwax, The Juan MacLean and Classixx and now finally comes with a own project. Four cover versions of great tunes from the 70ies and 80ies. 
The first one - Dennis Parker's Like an Eagle - produced by Audiojack came out in March and caused quite a stir on dance floors. This new single "Working The Midnight Shift" (originally by Donna Summer) - is a next step in this experiment of translating the classic 80ies boogie vibe into something fresh. Somehow futuristic. Bonar Bradberry (of PBR Streetgang) did the production on this one. A jumping late 90ies Electrobeat "Detroit style" builds the fundament for Nancy's sweet and lighty voice. There is a dramatic edge in this tune. The synths come smooth. In a wild contrast to the rolling bassline. The version is quite different to the original version made by Moroder and Summer - back in the old disco days in Munich. The extended version of the song is quite a trip.

One of Copenhagen’s most beloved artists Christian d’Or returns with new music, dropping a stunning track from forthcoming EP “Tough Soul”. 

On Friday 22 April, Christian d’Or will release the EP “Tough Soul” on Sound of Copenhagen. It is an EP that oozes d’Or, but also uncovers new musical layers of the renowned Copenhagen DJ.  As a musician he is steeped in styles such as psych, disco and jazz and on “Tough Soul”, d’Or shows a more sinister side. Musically, the five songs on the EP salute the 70s and 80s, while the lyrics’ timeless themes of love and hate are securely carried by d’Or’s dark vocals.

“Tough Soul” is the first single from forthcoming EP by the same name.

Returning to Beats in Space after their debut 12" (and the label's debut release) in the fall of 2011, Paradis offers "Hémisphère" and "Je m'ennuie", another pair of sophisticatedly crafted, noir-pop songs from the young Parisian duo.

On the two tracks of their second 12", Paradis self-reflect to find an escape hatch away from themselves. The A-Side, "Hémisphère", a macabre story of a lonely guest of life determined to leave everything behind, defies the narrative's convention and captivates with pop melodies and up beats abound.

On the B-Side, "Je M'ennuie", lovers settle into late-night melancholic routines soundtracked by a brooding bass line, an achingly affective synth lead, and vocals that grin behind the disaffected front. Ultimately, hope prevails as both tracks beg the listener to leave their headphones behind for the global village's dance floor. From Paris to Cologne, from Buenos Aires to New York, in the words of Michel Polnareff, "On ira tous au Paradis."

Each 12" from Beats in Space features original artwork in considerate & serial form. The first 12" features artwork by Denise Kupferschmidt, a Brooklyn-based artist finding inner / outer space in the movement of line and assemblage of color. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a vinyl BIS logo cling. The 12" will be available on May 22nd, 2012 from fine retailers worldwide. The digital version will be available May 29th, 2012 from the drab internet universe.
