Spanish Afro Latin House producer Kiko Navarro returns to Wonderwheel for the second single from his upcoming album 'Afroterraneo'. "Ihabogi Rawaly" drops the tempo and brings in a thick groove with an 80's bassline, a slowed 4/4 beat, syncopated percussion, and synth stabs. Soaring, soulful vocals on the track come from Guinean singer Aboubacar Sylla, extolling the virtues of how grateful we should be for the earth and to enjoy and protect what we all have and share as humans. Italian production duo Randomized Coffee come through with a Afrohouse re-working complete with West African guitar licks and heavy live percussion turning the track into an Carving out an enviable reputation across the globe for his distinctive and highly personal brand of House music, Kiko Navarro’s voyage of sonic discovery has been going strong for almost three decades now. Born in Mallorca, Kiko’s sound reflects the sun-drenched, slow living atmosphere of the Balearic island he still calls home. Obsessed from an early age with the more soulful side of US House music, Navarro’s DJ skills soon attracted the attention of nightlife behemoth Pacha who offered him club residencies both in Palma and in Ibiza. Los múltiples proyectos de Caterina Purdy tienen algo en común: desafían siempre los limites en cuanto géneros, convenciones y prejuicios. Musa e Indudable precursora y pionera del boom del nuevo perreo dancehall - y el extremismo de su puesta en escena tanto de su proyecto Electro del 2000 Purdy Rocks -hace que tenga carácter de mito en la escena independiente. Hoy termina de producir su tercer disco TEKNOXAMANA con influencias que van desde los Ícaros del la selva del Perú hasta el oriente mistico, se mantiene en los bordes habitando una periferia tanto cultural como simbólica - como una distancia desde la cual conserva su autonomía - siempre ajena y adelantada a las tendencias.

LO PURDY

“¿Ha perdido Chile una artista visual y ha ganado una rockera?”. Preguntaba David Ponce, era el 2004 y Caterina se reía antes de decir que no, que no creía, pero que la frase le gustaba. Acababa de crear –ella sola– un disco y una puesta en escena memorables y varios medios hablaban de ella como “revelación electrónica”.  Probablemente un segundo disco en la misma línea de “Rock my Ass” habría tenido incluso más éxito. Quizá la habría sacado de la escena independiente. Quizá la habríamos visto presentándolo en un matinal. Pero eso no sería muy Purdy. No. Lo verdaderamente Purdy es: la ética DIY –Do It Yourself–, porque al final, cosechar tus propios vegetales en tu huerta y producir tus propias canciones no son cosas tan distintas: ambas son formas de subversión contra la cultura de consumo. La mezcla de música, video, performance y todos los recursos disponibles en el escenario, eso también es muy Purdy (la artista visual no está perdida). Pero lo más Purdy de todo es la incapacidad de quedarse en lo mismo por mucho tiempo.
Por eso no es tan sorprendente que su último álter ego llegara así, selvático-altiplánico-sabrosón. Como Cholita Sound, Caterina trae hits con potencial para ser himnos bailables del underground –como lo fueron “Shenga” y “Espiritual Emergency” –, cumbia y reguetón para incendiar las pistas otra vez. Todo 100% Purdy, por supuesto.
