Day Dreamy

Continuing the animix series this week is one of the most passionate and talented musicians I know. Max Santilli ( @maxsant ) is a musical chameleon with an incredibly deep and diverse knowledge of music. One half of the Eora/ Sydney duo @angophora , and an avid record collector,  
max has released a beautiful range of releases under the duo and his solo project. 

The warm qualities that shine through in maxes music are reflective of his deeply humble character, and his music never fails to blow me away - beautifully tranquil and always unique.

“Extracting the eternal from the ephemeral” 

Hello and welcome to the 13th episode of The Best Effort Show on Skylab Radio. The number 13 is often considered unlucky. Mathematically, 12 is a perfect number and trying to improve upon that by just adding an extra digit is thought to be foolish. There were 13 people at the last supper. The basketball star Steve Nash was a two-time MVP but never won a championship - guess which number he wore on his jersey? 

There are others who choose to make their own meaning of numbers. Those people mostly consider 13 to be one of the ‘wonderful numbers’. 13 is about the abundance of the universe. 13 is about committing a moment to memory. 13 is about dreams perceived while awake or asleep.

LOIF is a Melbourne-based producer and DJ with an amazing talent and infectious energy. Although no stranger to the late-night club slot or occasional open air, the next hour showcases a softer, more reflective side of his repertoire.

"In light of current events, I thought it best to put together something more relaxing and/or melancholic than my usual style. I pay my respects to the traditional custodians of this great southern land, the Gadigal of the Eora nation and their Elders past, present and future. I acknowledge their culture and relationship with the land and water. Aboriginal land; always was, always will be.

For Maika

@aliciacarrera has been quietly working away in the underground for a number of years. She is Barcelona based after a spell in Berlin, and is a multi-disciplinary talent who works as a graphic artist, photographer and editorial designer all while managing the cult Hivern Discs label and (in other times) spinning weird and wonderful DJ sets all round Europe. She has a penchant for sounds that come from opposite ends of the spectrum - colourful and psychedelic, dark and experimental, slow and cosmic or more hard and techno - and hearing her join these up is always a thing to behold, as are her radio shows for the likes of NTS Radio amongst others.

This week, no doubt mindful of the fact many of us are spending most of our time at home, she takes on a far-flung journey through mid tempo grooves and cinematic sounds. It's a mind-expanding trip that opens with worldly ambiance and takes you through a number of wide open spaces littered with sombre trumpets, gently tumbling jazz drums and cosmic drones. It's pensive and absorbing as it slowly shifts through the gears, and is a perfect catalyst for escapism.
