Off the back of the infectious original by London-based twosome Don Diablo and Matt Nash comes the official remix for summer smash ‘Starlight (Could You Be Mine)’ by Swedish dynamo Otto Knows.

Flicking the switch from energy-infused electro, Otto gives ‘Starlight’ a rapturous facelift that is both defiantly uplifting and joyous in its nature. The remix strips the original of its electro muscles replacing those with emphatic bassline swoops and a pumping four-to-the-floor drum stomp.

First nurtured under Swedish House Mafia delegate, Sebastian Ingrosso, Otto flash-banged many with his brilliant debut ‘Million Voices’, which toppled the Shazam chart and went straight on to the BBC Radio 1 playlist. In doing so, he grabbed the thoughts of a surge of new fans while sitting comfortably within the top 15 tracks in the UK singles chart, before eventually going gold in Australia, Belgium, Holland and his native Sweden. Meanwhile, Otto himself was named as a ‘Young Star’ by international tastemaker and Radio 1 DJ, Pete Tong.

With quality rather than quantity at the heart of his work ethic, late last year saw widely praised remixes of Dada Life (“Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker”) and Burns (“Lies) hit the airwaves. The busy festival period took him on jaunts right across Europe including slots at Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Electric Zoo and Ushuaia in Ibiza.

This remix is set to push Otto Knows even further into the consciousness of mainstream listeners while interest is still hot and at a time when electronic music is at its most potent.

Dear All,

I am very excited to share with you the first single from my forthcoming #EDM album on @Armadamusic. This song, a collaboration with Arty and Nadia, began several years ago in demo form when I emailed a rough track to Nadia. After several months of riffing back and forth on lyrical notes and counterpoint lines, I began the lengthy and arduous task of comping together a meaningful and poignant vocal. I often compare this process to pointillism in art. It takes an extraordinary amount of time, but in the end when it's worth it, it's well worth it.

This track then sat on my proverbial studio shelf for about 18months. During this time, one of the myriad of pieces I was composing was a 6/4 64 bpm orchestral composition that had these protracted movements of cello, vibraphone, metalaphone and handbells. It occurred to me, somewhere I think I have a vocal, in a related key and tempo / signature. I dug around on the server and bingo...dorian it was. Nadia's vocal was a near perfect fit and worked amazingly with some of the orchestral and small instrument (TBU style) orchestration.

Enter...Arty. At this time Arty and I had been talking over DM on Twitter about collaborating on a track together. I sent him both the vocal and orchestral things we'd written and he sent me back beautiful percolating and driving percussion, an incredible undulating tresillo ostinato synth line and a beautiful drop.

This part of the process began to culminate during this summer. As I was beginning to dig in to Trevor Wisharts brilliant new version of CDP. For those of you that don't know, CDP is a command based DSP programing language that calls opcodes and commands in either OSX terminal or DOS. I've been using it in both for many years but this track is the first time I've really gotten my hands dirty so to speak, on something as prominent as a vocal and Nadia's provided the perfect clay. After about 100+ hours of pure sound design, spectral blurring..distort repeating and the epic PSOW and modify brassage, you can hear the results of these sonic transformations throughout "Must be the Love", most notably at the very beginning. I for one have never heard anything like this.

More than anything, this is a beautiful and simple song that speaks directly to me, and I hope to you as well. After all, music is first and foremost a language to speak the unspoken directly from breathing life form to breathing life form.

Having enjoyed an outstanding year, Alesso certainly isn’t resting on his laurels as it starts to draw to a close. At just 21 years old, Alesso has quickly established himself as one of the most fresh and exciting talents of the EDM world, and with a flourishing back catalogue of club and chart hits already to his name and a reputation as a DJ that precedes him, this is clearly only the start for the supremely talented young DJ and producer. Following the success of breakthrough singles such as ‘Nillionaire’, ‘Raise Your Head’ and ‘Calling’, Alesso went straight into DJ Mag’s Top 100 in his first year running as well as being tipped by MTV as one of their EDM artists to watch for 2012. Since the turn of the year things haven’t slowed down either, recording an essential mix in March, hitting the top of the Beatport and DMC Buzz Charts and travelling across the world to play to 1000s of fans from Masquerade Motel in Miami to Coachella, EDC to Tomorrowland and Milton Keynes Bowl, where he supported Swedish House Mafia. The release of his latest single ‘Years’ this Summer firmly cemented his position at the forefront of electronic music as we step in to the new year.
