About the Release
On All Hallows’ Eve 2025, Suffolk folk singer songwriter Anita Abram unveils her haunting new single, Jackdaw Man. Inspired by the tradition of folklore and balladry, the song tells the chilling tale of a strange, malevolent figure who visits a small town at dawn. As the townsfolk scatter, the young men, drunk from the night before, are left vulnerable and ultimately claimed by the Jackdaw Man.

Written and narrated by Anita, this eerie fable-like song is both a cautionary tale and a reminder: the human soul is precious beyond price.

The Music & Storytelling
* Vocals & Narration: Anita Abram leads the tale with her evocative storytelling vocal and folk-inspired singing.
* Instrumentation:
    * Anita – Rhythm guitar, bodhran, and lead vocal.
    * Tim Pennick (Copper Foxes bandmate) – Accordion, including an original instrumental solo he composed.
    * Steve West (Copper Foxes bandmate) – Lead guitar, weaving dark, melodic textures.
    * Pete Moody – Producer, multi-instrumentalist, and the menacing voice of the Jackdaw Man.
    * Tommy Moody – Adds a chilling children’s rhyme at the end of the track, evoking the echoes of playground folklore.
The arrangement fuses traditional folk instrumentation with atmospheric production, creating a soundscape that is both ancient and otherworldly.

Lyrical Themes
The song blends original imagery with the cadence of old English balladry. Its refrains mark the stages of the Jackdaw Man’s approach: first the birds flee, then the girls, and finally the young men are taken.
Highlighted lines include:
* “All the birds are leaving town now the Jackdaw Man is coming around…”
* “Too late to make a bargain, your soul’s a heavy price…”
* “Run, run, run as fast as you can and don’t get caught by the Jackdaw Man.”

Artist’s Note
“I wanted to write a song about a character who could have stepped straight out of folklore, a figure both terrifying and symbolic. The Jackdaw Man is born entirely from my imagination, but he carries with him all the dark omens and moral lessons you’d expect from an old folk tale. This release is especially meaningful as it’s my first recording to feature both of my bandmates from Copper Foxes, Tim and Steve, alongside Pete Moody, who produced the track and breathed life into the Jackdaw Man himself.” — Anita Abram
