Sisu: Behind the Decks on International Women's Day

On our third-year anniversary, we are stoked to launch ‘Yellow Island Various Artists 2021’. The compilation brings new faces to the label and features artists from different countries around the world, allowing each artist to express their own essence.

This V/A showcases experimental sounds, with 20 tracks that flow through the genres of house, lo-fi, electro, IDM, breaks and jungle.

We had the pleasure to have Gabriel Massan design the cover artwork for the album.

I’m d.phylleia, I’m a DJ new to the scene, from London (UK). I’m inspired by electro in all its form. In particular, all things gritty, distorted and bass-driven. I’m drawn to the genre because of it’s history, complexity and the underlying darkness in its sound. I have a bi-monthly show on @narr-radio in Leeds, which explores other forms of electronic that inspire me such as industrial, darkwave, experimental, post-punk, EBM and rhythmic noise. For now, my sets are all vinyl, which shapes what I play as much as how I go about it. This aspect of my DJing is also useful in finding older records!

His tracks are released on labels like 8ounce, EXILES, Seagrave & Banlieue. In a collaboration with MA'AM called MA'IWA they are part of the SHAPE platform's alumni in 2020. This one hour mix represents his own niche in today's electronic music universe, demonstrating a unique synergy between these tracks, shifting through styles and patterns until we get a enchanting effect as a result ツ
