The protests appeared to be smaller than those on Thursday, when thousands gathered in Moscow and St. Petersburg. But the true scale was difficult to gauge...

No To War! (свобода)

"The immortality of the soul was hardly doubted in Celtic lands if Roman and Greek sources are to be believed. With respect to Celtic belief, Julius Caesar stated that souls “pass after death from some to others” (ab aliss post mortem transire ad alios). This may simply mean that the soul obtained a new corporeal vessel after it departed from its old shell. However, taken alone this quote tells us little about what the Celts truly believed regarding death and reincarnation.

Other classical authors noted that the druids believed in the idea of the transmigration of the soul. Diodorus Siculus stated that the soul “lives again after a certain number of years” in another form or body. Lucan also paid mention to the druid’s belief in reincarnation. He stated, "The spirit governs limbs in another region; if you know whereof you sing, death is in the middle of a long life.” This quote delineates the transitory nature of the soul and simply states that the body is the vessel that houses it. Yet others likened the druid’s teachings to that of Pythagoras (who also adhered to the notion that souls went through a transmigration process). From what little can be gathered of the remaining references to Pythagorean teaching, it was thought that the soul might reincarnate into either human or animal bodies. This was known as metempsychosis."

Seine Minded is a companion piece to Study In Pink And Black, a work that plays on the legacy of James McNeill Whistler and his famous portrait Whistler's Mother—but with a personal twist.
Where Pink And Black contains a quiet visual pun—layering the idea of “Whistler’s mother” with my own—this piece steps away from the joke and lingers in what remains.
The piano writing is restrained and reflective, built on flowing left-hand arpeggios and a lyrical right-hand line that favours tone over display.
Harmonically, it stays in a minor, gently shifting space, with suspended chords and soft dissonances suggesting motion without urgency.
It rises briefly, like light catching the Seine, before settling back into stillness.
If Pink And Black is the idea, Seine Minded is the feeling—the quiet walk afterwards, when the mind drifts and something more personal takes hold.

I make music because it is where I let go of the have-to’s, and become part of something larger than myself. The language I speak on the keyboard when I improvise expresses a part of me that only comes out there at the moment of creation - when I’m fully connected and in the flow. In those moments when I disappear in the music, those are where I’m most fully alive. The musical question I pose to myself when I play is largely this: how can I release my inhibitions and let go of patterns sufficient to bring something entirely new, unexpected, and enlightening into the world, with structure, precision, clarity, and depth of expression. These pieces are meditations that are of me, but more precisely, they come through me. When I’m in the flow, I’m channeling the energy and only moderately directing it. The challenge is to be open to take risks while maintaining a structure, melody, and tempo that makes it interesting and satisfying enough to keep listening. I keep doing this nightly because it’s a language, because it’s a connection to something greater than myself, and because it’s very very relaxing.
