Suspicion and Mystery not being great tags, I'm putting it up there anyway; If you like these ANGRY CELLOS, do go listen to Adriano's great versatility in his soundtrack for " The Whisperer" and see if you don't recognize that versatility personified there too?  We hated this "character" that Ana sings so sweetly about; as we all stood by , watched, and could do nothing! Thus, " Where were you?" and" Where was I?" as this tragedy flew by ?

Oh, my God, HE DID IT!   Adriano put the ANGRY CELLOS in on Ana Marie Ceuca's version!    NOW I have the  Theme for the "Short film" titled "Man on The Run!"
(Just a very sad story about a couple I once knew)

She was born with a silver spoon, Antiques in every room
She was a lady of means'
Sophisticate Debutante;
She knew she would never want,
Everyone,  fulfilled, her dreams.

He was born lonely, 
With an ache in his heart
And a game  on his mind he must win.
Together, they wandered , and squandered her money,
They both live a life full of sin.

I watched them play their game... vengeance in everything
He could not keep to his plan;
He'd complicate everything, right down to the wedding ring;
He proclaimed it was " out of his hands."

He was a man on a mission, no time for her kissin'
He never brought her much fun;
She thought he loved her, but he only used her...
Now he's a man on the run.

CH:
Where were you? Where was I
When you said "I love you," then you made me cry.

Bridge:

We used to know this girl, bright eyes and bouncing curls,
She played croquet with her dad.
She traded her love, it seems, 
To a man who would crush her dreams.
She gave him everything...

Never Be Forgotten

The title of this album my attempt at translating the Farsi phrase قارچ‌های غربت to English. It comes from the poem "The Sound of Water's Footsteps" by Iranian poet Sohrab Sepehri. 

A more literal translation of the phrase would be Mushrooms of "Ghurba", an originally Arabic word that has several meanings, including senses of estrangement, alienation, loneliness, being away for home, and longing.

I composed many of these pieces during and after Israel's 12 day war on Iran in the summer of 2025. Being  an Iranian living abroad for 15 years, I had never felt Ghurba the way I felt it this summer, as I realized more and more that Iranian lives matter to exactly no one.
Ghurba and all its meanings overshadow most of the pieces in this album. 

The music heard on this post is the final track, which is an improv piece with the same title as the album.

In the album art, I tried to depict a mycelial network creeping up the piano and my body, and expanding into the ground, maybe a thread or two reaching the other side of the world where home is.

As Sepehri's poem says "Who cares if sometimes the mushrooms of ghurba start to grow?" 

You are right Sohrab, nobody does...

Improv 10 - Mushrooms of Longing

I make music because it is where I let go of the have-to’s, and become part of something larger than myself. The language I speak on the keyboard when I improvise expresses a part of me that only comes out there at the moment of creation - when I’m fully connected and in the flow. In those moments when I disappear in the music, those are where I’m most fully alive. The musical question I pose to myself when I play is largely this: how can I release my inhibitions and let go of patterns sufficient to bring something entirely new, unexpected, and enlightening into the world, with structure, precision, clarity, and depth of expression. These pieces are meditations that are of me, but more precisely, they come through me. When I’m in the flow, I’m channeling the energy and only moderately directing it. The challenge is to be open to take risks while maintaining a structure, melody, and tempo that makes it interesting and satisfying enough to keep listening. I keep doing this nightly because it’s a language, because it’s a connection to something greater than myself, and because it’s very very relaxing.
