This song is inspired by the artwork 'The List', publicly on display on Great George Street as part of the 2018 Liverpool Biennial. The artwork features information relating to the 34,000 migrants and refugees who have lost their lives since 1993 within or on the borders of Europe. I've walked past The List many times over the summer and I've still not really processed the devastating accounts of the deaths of so many human beings by drowning, shooting, electrocution and suicide. This song is my response and musically has something in common with Ry Cooder's 'Across the Borderline' which is about people trying to cross the border into the USA. 'In My Arms' finds the narrator waking from a dream where they recall home, cataclysm and isolation to find themselves holding a loved one in their arms. Finally, that in itself turns out to be a dream leaving them holding only loss.
