Halo, Disko?

Any botanist will extol the virtues of cross-pollination, and musical hybrids are a Growing Bin speciality. For the latest release Parisian outfit Maât splice jazz with Balearic, dub, house and Afro to create a free thinking LP dedicated to world fusion fore-runners Codona.
If Singu found calm amongst the chaos of Tokyo for ’Siku’ (GBR017), then Maât map out a Sunday stroll through the sun dappled streets of the Parisian banlieue on ’Solar Mantra’. Humming reeds converge into a pre-dawn chorus before dewy sequences and drifting syncopation signal sunrise over La Vilette, a perfect place to start ‘The Walk’. Skirting the Périphérique, the Parisian ensemble pick out a street percussionist by Boulevard d’Algérie then detour to Pré-Satint-Gervais to draw a bassline out of the Metro Area, adding an Environ cool to the uptempo ‘Jaki & Bryn’. With icy bells, brooding guitars and melancholic vocals, ‘Feuglace’ transports Miko’s garten to the 20th arrondissement while the polyrhythmic patter and micro-tuned guitars of ‘Solar Mantra’ see out the A-side with a fourth world hymn. 
Chakras cleansed and ready for a B-side rebirth, Maât take us dancing through Père Lachaise via organic house bomb ‘Quetzal Pacino’, an emotive exploration of rhythmic mallets, dreamy pads and propulsive bass, which moves like the Innerzone Orchestra re-arranged by Jon Hassell. Rest comes with the soothing pianos and swelling sine waves of the pastoral ‘Clarière’, a hazy homage to the noon sun on a clearing. Circular motifs, limber grooves and dubby bass mean we’re on the move again, slipping into Montreuil with the echo-drenched scat and firm back beats of ‘Mount Beuvray’, before ‘Llomé Dub’ takes us home in time for a cool beer and much needed smoke on the balcony. Acoustic guitar, lilting piano and a gorgeous female vocal ride the punchy bass and clattering drums to perfection, keeping us company until the day fades into a contented haze.

Funk — Disco

PIEK es una de las figuras más prolíficas de su generación. Su versatilidad hace que sea un artista imposible de encasillar, abarcando un amplio espectro de sonidos que van desde el House, el Funk o el Disco hasta la electrónica más vanguardista. 

La pasión por la música y por coleccionar vinilos ha sido uno de sus rasgos más distintivos desde niño, lo que le ha permitido desarrollar un criterio muy especial a la hora de poner discos. 

Es por eso que en sus sesiones siempre intenta sorprender y marcar la diferencia, compartiendo su bagaje con el público. 
Tras varios EP’s, apariciones en recopilatorios de sagas como Fabric (Londres) o Balance (Australia) y más de una docena de producciones para spots de publicidad, llegó su LP de debut, “Despertar” (Sincopat, 2017). El disco recibió muy buenas críticas por parte de la prensa especializada (Radio3, XLR8R, DJMag, FazeMag o Exclaim!) y el apoyo de DJ's de la talla de Laurent Garnier. Cabe destacar además que uno de los temas incluidos en dicho álbum, “I Saw You”, se usó para presentar la colección primavera / verano 2017 de la marca alemana Wella.

Black Rox returns with installment no.5 in the series. 

Their continuing voyage in bringing another set of unearthed-mother-earthed flavoured gems remains their goal.

Roots Unit are - once again - on the cutting and splicing side of things, this time tackling 2 rockets with afro-centric house leanings.

First up is ‘This Poem’, an alternative house take on the tune made most famous by Bobby Konders via his initial sample source, way back when. Percussive house beats mixed with deep stringy chords intertwined by THAT poem.  Simple, effective and one that will lift many a dance floor.

Coming off the back of their fierce remix of Lou Hayter’s ‘MBJCFM’, Rheinzand trade seats for the receiving end. On this first of a bundle of three remix EP’s, it’s the Belgian trio’s disco splurge ‘Obey’ that gets the treatment.
On the first slot of four, SIRS (aka Daniel Klein) puts his bouncy staccato grooves to work in a sped up housey version.
On ‘Hardway Bros Stereo Odyssey’, acid house veteran and disco devotee Sean Johnston filters the theatrical sheen through glitchy techno beats in something like a cyborg re-assemblage. Pure Terminator funk. A live mix of this version, recorded at the SSL, features as well on track 3.
Scorpio Twins finish off with an epic of coruscating lightworks that somehow seems nocturnal at the same time. This is absolutely stunning sound work, if we’re allowed to say. Crystal glass structures, shimmering through space in circuit of thumping bass drums.
