Released in 2014, "Top Secret" is a compilation of originals and standards. For this recording, I commissioned Austin, Texas luthier, Ed Schaefer, to build an arch top guitar for me. Upon first sight, I named the guitar, "Loretta." All of the musicians on this recording strive for the rhythmic joy and groove we all remember in the Count Basie band.

On this project, that groove is practically a character of its own, like "Loretta," the guitar. The project title came from a Dropbox folder name used to share the rough mixes with the musicians. My thanks to everyone who played on this recording, and to Mark Piszczek for his horn arrangements.
