Forming in 2006, the group has evaded categorization with their particular brand of atmospheric improvisations. They have a list of goals that read like a mission statement, including ‘to create sound impressions full of atmosphere aiming to paint pictures in your head.’ Goal archieved. "Die Band um den Kölner Grafiker & Musiker Christian Barthold geht nicht den geraden Weg. Hier hört man jazziges, Progressiv-Elemente, Post-Rock-Tristesse und immer wieder ganz unerwartete Sounds, die dann, wie in PONYHOF, zu einem Moll-Surf-Instrumental führen, das sehr an die wunderbaren Atomic Swing erinnert. Gemeinsam mit Jörg Düpjohann (dr.), Markus Blatzheim (bs) und dem Pianisten Christoph Uhlhaas ist ein sehr eigenwilliges Album gelungen, das neben der Musik auch für sein Verpackungsdesign die absolute Höchstwertung bekommt."

Last year’s open air festivals (such as Fusion Festival) were perfect to capture some of Boe’s dreamful vocals used for Marc DePulse’s House beats and self-made instrumentals by guitarist Adrian. The three musicians are now ready to publish their second release as music trio Westbalkonia via the record label of the same name, run by Marc DePulse and Boe van Berg. Their EP is due to be released on May 12th, 2014. We are very happy to present the EP’s A1 track (“Haus Aus Sand”) four weeks prior to the official release.

Schon im letzten Sommer konnte man auf diversen Open Airs und auch beim Fusion Festival Boes träumerischen Vocals lauschen, die er auf Marc DePulses House-Beats und handeingespielten Instrumenten vom Gitarristen Adrian zielsicher einsetzt. Nun folgt eine neue Veröffentlichung des Trios Westbalkonia. Die zweite EP auf dem gleichnamigen Label Westbalkonia, hinter dem sich Marc DePulse und die Band Boe van Berg verbergen, erscheint Mitte Mai 2014. Der A1-Track der Platte "Schöner Als Gestern", "Haus Aus Sand", feiert bei uns vier Wochen vor der Veröffentlichung Premiere.

Now they dash out of their shelter, falling into the present time from somewhere else: the Band UNMAP sends a first sign of life with "When To Lead And When To Follow".

Compact yet still versatile. Like a massive ship on a restless sea the song moves ahead, dark in the heavy rhythm of the waves. Unmap reports with a dry narrator's voice and hints towards a huge singalong about a tension between solo ambition and obedience. About the question of when it's time to defer and when it's time to lead. 

 "When To Lead And When To Follow" pulses with naive yet sublime pride, unfolds an urban version of gloomy music that grips the reader with moody intimacy. This piece elegantly touches the codes of Soul and Electronica, R'nB and Indie and assembles the essentials from it with ease. Nothing more to add at the moment.
