This is a "new" song I've finally had a chance to finish.  I just found the original acoustic demo from Oct 2016, so it gives you a feel for how quickly things move.   I wanted to record a more rocking song rather than the usual move into mellower as I age :).  Thanks to Craig Whitehead for adding to the backing vocals.

This was the song that started Wayside MkII.  Mark Belsito had moved from keyboards to bass and Trent Shumay had joined the band on on guitar.  In our first rehearsals we couldn't really play any other songs, so we just played this one over and over.

The recording was actually finished after Wayside had broken up, ( Even though we didn't know it at the time ). Craig Whitehead recorded the drums before heading to Africa and we finished it up on my computer in my old condo.  I remember running a mic into our bedroom closet and cramming in there with all Karen's clothes.  I wouldn't quite call it studio quality but I am actually pretty happy with how it turned out.

It is definitely the best of example of our Britpop influence and was always a fun one to play live.  I remember playing it at a show in Maple Ridge and having someone in the crowd yell out: " hey that sounds like the Verve".  All happy, I yelled back "thanks".  He followed it up with: " I hate the Verve".   Awesome.

Star

This was an interesting song for Wayside.  It was written and recorded about a year after the band had gotten rolling.   Lots of fun facts about this one:

- it was recorded using the prize money we received for placing in the top 10 bands in CFoxs Seeds contest.  This song ended up on the Seeds CD that was released that year.

- Hemmes, our bass player, suggested we drop the guitar in the 2nd verse.  I thought it was a ridiculous idea at the time and I'm not sure how I ended up going along with it.  Love that decision now, one of my favourite parts.

- we loved playing this song live.   At one particular gig at the Cobalt Hotel ( what a dive ) after a particularly inspired version someone from the crowd yelled out: " You guys put the Green back in Green Day".  No idea if that's a good thing or not.

- I refused to play this song live for many years after it was pointed out to me that a few notes on the verses sound like a melody from a song by the Special Guests ( now Jets Overhead ).   They were a band we played a few shows with and I guess one of their melodies did get subconsciously stuck in my head.  Old age has made me more comfortable with the "borrowing now", that and the fact that some of my favourite bands are notorious for it. 

- the lyrics are mostly nonsense :-).  In fact the chorus was "why do you believe", but I kind of mumbled it together and it sounded like Why Jubilee?  so Jubilee it became.
