Baby One More Time (jazz a capella cover)

In response to all the Fallout 4 hype - one of my favourite tracks from the Fallout 3 soundtrack, originally recorded by the Inkspots and used to great effect in the intro of the game, repeated plays on the radio never seem to dull its magic.  My version is a little more mellow, a little more soul, but hopefully still good.

Shiina Ringo, one of my all time favourite artists, created this cover version of a classic song from her first album for performances with her band Tokyo Jihen, then included it as a bonus track on her fifth studio album, 'Sanmon Gossip'. I thought the EXPO version's mix of English and Japanese lyrics made it a good choice for my own recording.
I've been wanting to do a Shiina Ringo cover for a while, but her songs often don't work well a capella, since they're as much about the whole music experience as they are about the vocals. I think this works okay, though.

One of my favourite songs by one of my all time favourite artists, I've been waiting a long time to do a cover of this and I'm still not sure it's quite what I wanted it to be, but I had fun and it's been a while since I recorded anything so I thought it worth a share at least.  It's a great song to sing a capella as so much of it is covered by the melisma and vocalisations, plus, as usual for Annie Lennox, there's a lot of emotion which appeals to the actor in me also.

So this is a bit of an experiment.  I love this song (translated lyrics here: http://utau-inu.com/centj/translations/meisai_shiinaringo.htm) and I've wanted to record it for ages, but I just haven't been brave enough (although I tried once).  This time, I just went for it and allowed myself to go a little wild with the a capella jazz stylings.  The result is probably more rough than usual, but I'd be keen for some feedback.

I've been wanting to record this since last Christmas, but the rule in our house is you can't sing carols until it's at least December, so I had to wait.  Mostly I just wanted to try this carol to a different melody.  The one I chose is one of my favourite hymn melodies, which I know best from 'How Rich and Deep God's Judgements Are'.
