Dawn and dusk in the Amazon rainforest are particularly lush when it comes to biophony, especially by a slow flowing river. The stark contrast between the beauty of birdsong and the shrill urgency of insect calls is never as evident. Long version at https://youtu.be/Rq6eMZyVFtk

Three different moments within a quiet windless night. This is not an exceptional recording but I like the atmosphere anyway.
A howl, a fox and a blackbird can be heard as well as a frog and probably some rodents close to the tripod.
The microphones and the recorder have been left the whole night.
The photo has been shot in the morning when I came back to pick the stuff up.

Recorded with a Nagra Ares BB+, Neumann KM184, ORTF near my house, in la Creuse, France.

Early morning. I went to see if it would be possible to record moor frogs in a place where I know they are. I didn't see any frogs, but I did meet a capercaillie. I tied the microphones to a tree and left to record. The picture shows the same bird that appears in the recording.

Equipment:
Zoom F3 digital recorder
An Azden microphone pre-amplifier/mixer
Primo Microphones with EM172 capsules. Recorded 32 bit 48kHz

Western capercaillie makes vocalizations in early spring forest

Your head it fell down
Your eyes rolling backwards into your crown 
And everyone’s watching you
To see what your rolling head will do 

I could not hear
Over the metal grinding on gears 
we are not meant to be 
Hurtling through space at this velocity

The sun it shone bright 
Streaming in through a portal of light
As we sailed towards the night
In a ship full of tiny shampoo bottles and fright 

The gremlins did crawl
Up all over my seat having a ball
And they shook it so violently 
That it flew down below into a dark and angry sea

Your head it fell down
